MusicXML import doesn't look like musical notation

There is something funky with my xml import. Whenever I import an xml file, the resulting score looks nothing like traditional notation. My workaround is to go to Library manager and import settings from the last Dorico file I worked on. However, doing this for every xml file I open is very time-consuming and there has to be a better way. I tried to open one of the example files from this tutorial for reference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_k1HGDWCk0

As you can see, my resulting score is very different from the one in the video. I’ve unticked every option under MusicXML import in Preferences. This happens to EVERY xml import, regardless of whether it’s a file I’ve exported myself or something sent to me from others.

If I start a new project and import the xml into that project, things look as expected. I would like to be able to just import the xml from the start, though.

Could you attach the sample XML you used for the screenshot above?

Maybe some font is used which is not available in Dorico?

Absolutely. However, it’s not the xml file. This happens with every xml file that I drag intro Dorico.

Mozart Eine Kleine Nachtmusik.mxl (113.5 KB)

If I just open the file (File-Open), I get this, both on Dorico 6 and 5

What do you exactly do ?

When I use the same method, the music looks like your example for a second and then changes into the example I posted earlier. What I usually like to do to open the xml files is to drag them onto the Dorico icon in my dock or onto Steinberg Hub.

I think you should post your diagnostics. Something strange is happening in your set up if normal files don’t misbehave like this.

Could you save the resulting dorico project and post it here?

What music font is selected when you go to Library-Music Fonts ..?

How do I do that?

Absolutely!

Mozart Eine Kleine Nachtmusik.dorico (1.5 MB)

From within Dorico, do Help>Create Diagnostic Report and upload the zip file that appears on your desktop.

Thanks! Here it is.

Dorico Diagnostics.zip (1.0 MB)

Strange, your screenshots shows Sebastian is used, but when I open your Project it says the Helsinki Font is missing

What is shown at Library-Font Styles .. -Default Music Font?

If thats Helsinki too, try to change it to Bravura, and mark the star bottom left
