Muted events are still white.
It’s garish and, more importantly, distracting.
Unless I’m mistaken, there’s still no way to alter this.
Disappointed.

How would you prefer it to function though ?
A darker shade of the event colour, or just dark grey.
In the menus of Cubase, the options that are available are white. Disabled ones are dark grey.
Same goes for any computer program.
The reason for this is obvious.
I totally agree. I seem to recall in earlier versions of Cubase muted tracks were expressed in a more elegant way. I can’t be more specific but I have that memory.
Right now when I first touch a track with the mute tool it goes black with a color outline of the waveform. Then when you move on it goes white. I’d prefer that it stayed black at the very least.
I don’t particularly have an issue with how it is. However I can definitely support the idea of implementing more muted events graphical customization preferences.
I prefer the white - makes it super obvious that they’re muted which helps cut down on user errors when editing.
But I would not object to a user-chosen color preference.
I’m also thinking maybe something like a transparency amount preference too.
Absolutely agree. Can not see the whole at a blink. Very confusing and frustrating.
Found this thread as I was looking for a menu preference to change muted event brightness or opacity. The human eye is naturally drawn to light and brighter colors so in my mind it doesn’t make a lot of sense to highlight and draw greater attention to the unwanted muted bits… but hey, seems like some people like that, to each their own. Just as we can change the brightness and opacity on various event settings I’d love to see the option to do this for muted events. Thank you!
Just a reminder that the white muted parts are an abomination.
My suggestion; darken muted parts and make them blank so notes or events are no longer visible from the arrange page.
Have a great day ! ![]()
I agree. We’ve been completely brainwashed by Windows for the last 30 years into thinking that grayed out GUI elements mean reduced functionality. An easy solution from the Cubase team would be to add a preference setting that would change the background and foreground color and transparency levels of muted elements to exactly what the user wants. I think that would be easy task, because we know that the list of muted elements is already perfectly under control in the code. I, for one, thought I was going crazy, but then I realized that it’s actually a current practice that’s crazy. I mean, it takes effort to accept a practice that goes against the general practice and then consciously learn to do the opposite of what 99.5% of the rest of the system does. Of course, once you accept that forced learning mode, it becomes easy. But I don’t like the idea of forcing a single element to be white when my UI is set to generally dark to protect my eyes. Fortunately, the muted elements are in dark mode not completely white, but rather white-gray.
