I purchased a licence for Dorico 6 Pro and attempted to follow the installation instructions. The result was a complete failure, possibly because I never run as an administrator on my machine unless so instructed, or possibly because I started installing things in the wrong order. My Dorico 5 SE installation still works, so I am reluctant to start blindly uninstalling things to try again. The forum here seems to render incorrectly on my system, I have forgotten how I used it during the SE 5 installation, and I am struggling to find what I need here.
It is the same app, whether you have SE, Elements or Pro. Only the licence defines which one of those it behaves as.
If you’ve purchased a licence for Dorico Pro, then you should receive a download code, which you enter into the Steinberg Download Manager.
So what was the failure? What happened? What OS version are you on?
Windows 11, and my SE licence was for Dorico 5.1, so are you saying that any bug fixes since I downloaded 5.1 should have been updated by now? The instructions insisted thati downloaded the image. The only image that I have is in the old Dorico 5.1 folder. Is that normal?
The system do accept my new licence code.
Did accept my Dorico 6
pro licence code, but still limits me to 8 players.
Did you activate Dorico Pro 6 in the Steinberg Activation Manager?
Jesper
And playing a movement for string quartet, it does not render pizzicato.
Jesper, I thought that I did, but whatever went wrong it does not look like it happened.
So try again, make sure you are logged in.

Re-apply the auto Playback template under the Play menu.

I logged in on my first pass through the process. May have fallen off the path when I tried to retrace my steps, but I do not know how to get back to there if not being led by the process. I have looked at the Play menu for playback and everything is greyed out. You are talking to a novice here.
Is it actually possible to go from 5 SE to 6 Pro? Nothing that I have seen seemed to be expecting this.
What does your Activation Manager show? Is the Dorico 6 Pro license visible there and is it activated?
Playback works just as it did before I tried to upgrade.
Actication manager says that SE is activated, also HALion 7 Trial. Sounds like I need to dtarty again, but I’m wondering if anything needs to be undone to get back on track.
start again
Ok, so that means you do not have a Dorico 6 Pro license in your account.
What upgrade did you buy?
Looking at the possible choices on the Steinberg Website there is at least no way to upgrade from Dorico SE to Pro, so you need to buy a full license.
Can you please check what you really bought and what you paid for it?
In case you bought the full license you must have received a mail with a “Download Access Code” and that needs to be entered in the “Steinberg Download Assistant”, there is a button in the upper left corner for doing this.
That will register your license and allow you to activate it.
Quite sure that I did that, but clearly not correctly at some point. I shall try to repeat it correctly from square 1.
Does my access code also entitle me to HALion Symphonic orchestra?
