I’ve been experiencing several bugs with spectralayers, and decided to open a general topic for that. I’ll be posting videos of those as they happen. Didn’t want to open a topic for each of them, and also thought that it’d be easier on the dev team.
So, I posted this already but here is a bug with Reconstruct module, deleting the whole selection range horizontally instead of healing.
Here is another bug with the elliptical selection tool, it does not behave as it should
About the unmix sound effects process. Not sure if it’s a bug or not honestly but I feel like this module should be acting differently with this material here.
@ustun regarding the Unmix Sound Effects issue you have, it’s not an issue, just an improper setting of the FFT Size parameter (top right of the UI, in the Display panel). Try with a more normal FFT Size such as 3072.
Also, the default settings for this module are 3/4/6/2/2.
Regarding the last 2 videos about Reconstruct, that’s what I was about to suggest : setting a different FFT Size. In your first video of the two, it looked way too blurry horizontally for proper reconstruciton.
It would be very nice, if every function/every modul would indicate, if it depends on FFT-size and/or FFT-windows.
This could be done easily with a tooltip or a color indicator (different color of text). This should be optional to choose from in preferences.
I asked for this some time ago already, nothing happend. It seems “not important”… but it seemingly is. It’s one of those “simple things”, that would make life with SL much easier, imho.
I was working all day yesterday, with this new information about the FFT size. I always thought that the FFT size is just about the visual data. So, correct me if I’m wrong, but all of the processes in SL work with that visible data, so processes can see only what we can see. This just demystified a lot of behavior that I was a bit uncertain about actually, and will significantly reduce the amount of videos I’ll be posting here. A few more will come though, some more issues here but couldn’t catch them on video yet (:
Yep, I read it just now. And didn’t read it before.. so again, my bad (: And after reading the importance of FFT size in the manual, I instantly agreed with what @Sunnyman said. It’d be a really nice reminder to have an indicator of FFT dependency with related processes.
Although, I would not mind a directly visible indicator, like a small icon or the three letters “FFT” on the right side of the modules list.
For the manual tools I take it somewhat for granted that they are FFT dependent, being like a what-you-see-is-what-you-get function (maybe also just because I have used SL for some years by now).
