My Cubase 6.5 Won't open up

I went to open a song and it froze up. The program was unresponsive. I couldn’t even turn the program off so I rebooted the entire computer. When it came back on I could no longer get my Cubase 6.5 to open. When I click on the icon the point spins for a second and then stops and the program never opens. Any thoughts on what happened?

Hi,

First I would try to reinstall Cubase. If you are on Windows, install it as administrator. I would also try to rename the Preferences folder, to start it in the factory settings.

I reinstalled it but no change. Not sure how to install it as an administrator. I can’t access the preferences folder until it actually opens.

Have you tried updating to the latest version of Cubase? Cubase 6.5 is now very old (or are you still running it on an old computer?) Have you tried updating the elicenser software (Cubase 6.5 used a dongle)

It is still using a dongle. Running on Windows 7. Computer was new when 7 was new so I guess it’s old. I’ve not had a problem with it though. (until now)

Hi,

Right-click on the installer and choose the “Run as administrator” option.

Cubase Preferences folders are:
Mac: ~/Library/Preferences/Cubase X
Win: %appData% \Steinberg\Cubase X_64

Where the X is the Cubase version (for example 13).

I did what you said for “Run as administrator” and I get no response. I typed in the above (Windows) and it said It couldn’t find it and suggested I check my spelling (which was correct).

But you should

One thing I noticed is that after clicking on the Cubase Icon while it doesn’t show up on the screen if I go to the Task Manager it shows that it is running. I just can’t see it.

Sat with a guy from Sweetwater Sound for a couple hours. The best he could come up with was that the e-licenser is malfunctioning.
