Cubase 14 (or 13) wont start! Reinstalled and I’ve got the same stall.
There is this alert on the support page:
‘On May 27, between 2:00 and 6:30 a.m. (CEST), Steinberg user accounts will be temporarily unavailable due to important maintenance work. We expect the maintenance to last no longer than two hours.’
Today is May 26th though, but could it be related?

the message is unrelated to your problem.
Do your licenses show up in the Activation Manager? Are you logged in with the correct credentials?

New system, OS, new hardware, software updates etc?

Windows 11, everything working fine yesterday. Cubase 12, 13 and 14 with the same issue.
Activation Manager shows it’s activated.
And starting Cubase with preferences, it stalls at Initalizing Mackie Control 2 (my MCU Pro) and my Task manager says Checking Licenses → not responding.
Starting up with preferences disabled, it shows the Audio Driver Setup, so the Window is unclickable, and Task Manager shows Audio Driver Setup-> not responding
Only in Cubase! Everything else works, including Cubase 8, Wavelab 11 and Spectralayers Pro 12.
I had a recording session here and all was fine

Can you try to start Cubase with your Mackie Controller physically unplugged? If Cubase launches as expected try to plug in your Mackie Controller while Cubase still runs. Open Studio/Studio Setup/Devices and reconfigure the Controller. Make sure that it has a designated MIDI port assigned.
I’ve already done all that to no avail. I can never reach its interface, it halts before. It is reaaaally weird. I opened a ticket and sent the dump file. Let’s see how long that will take. Meanwhile, I’m back to Cubase 8.5…
I reckon that this might have something to do with the latest Windows 11 MIDI 2.0 update.
The MCU Pro seems to be one of the MIDI controllers that is affected so it’s not so much a Cubase issue.
Have you updated the latest firmware? This seems to be part of the solution as well as reconfiguring MIDI ports in Studio setup.
If I were you, I’d investigate in that direction!
I will definitelly check this out. Although my system hasn’t changed for a while and as I said it was working yesterday.
Do you think it could be somehow related to nvidia driver? I say that because I couldn’t move or click the Cubase driver setup window, which is very odd

In my RME Dsp Settings, there is an option: Direct Music MIDI
It’s always checked, they control my 2 Mackies MCU.
I unchecked, rebooted and Cubase launched! So, I checked back again in the hopes of a Matrix Glitch in the system… rebooted and everything is back to normal!!!
Thanks a bunch for your heads up, I REALLY appreciate, I am in the middle of a nightmare here!

Respect that you kept your calm and even considered working with Cubase 8.5 for the time being 
Is that the current RME driver (and DSP settings)?
DirectMusic was deprecated in 2006-ish and no longer works with the new MIDI stack in Windows 11. If this is a current driver, I’ll let the RME folks know.
(Steinberg already knows, as they also have a DirectMusic option in Cubase)
