I just found these two amazing shortcuts in Dorico…
opt+S
and
Opt+Shift+S
you can quickly solo selected instruments together and they stay intact.
When you are ready, you can deactivate all Solo States with the other shortcut…

If you’ve already selected more than one instrument, then only those staves will play when you press P.
