I have a custom project template I’ve created that is not giving me the right chord when type “N.C.” in the Chord Symbol Popover. It gives me “NmiCmi” instead. I’ve not monkeyed with the chord library, never created the “N.C.” as a custom symbol. It’s just not behaving like every other project I’ve created. Any ideas?
If I had to guess, I would assume that font doesn’t contain the correct glyphs in the places where Dorico is looking for them. If you change Library / Font Styles / Chord Symbols to something common like Helvetica, does it appear correctly for you? If so, the issue is that you are using an incompatible font.
Using Apple’s FontBook app on my Mac, I typed in N.C. as custom sample text and then looked for any fonts which showed NmiCmi. There may be others, but I found these:
Thank you, Fred and Steven! When I created this template, I just picked a sans serif font from the list in Library>Font Styles. I didn’t occur to me that some of those could have issues like this. And this is the first time I needed to use N.C. for this client. Fortunately GothiChords looks very similar so that client won’t notice the difference in future charts. Thanks again!
Using the “standard” Bravura and Academico fonts for the start of a transcription of Blue Seven, using the chord symbol pop-over and entering N.C. creates N.C. as desired. This implies to me that the issue you have is to do with font choice and not fundamentally Dorico.
