n00b question (sorry)

so i’ve just upgraded to a 64-bit system, and wish to copy over my VSTs to the new computer.

normally i’d just copy the .dll files into the Steinberg folder…but there’s two lots - “Program Files” and “Program Files (x86)”…

where do i put my VSTs!!?

Program Files = used for 64 bit
Program Files (x86) = used for 32 bit

Don’t forget to point to both VST’s dir’s in your host when working with mixed bit’s.

thanks niles, i appreciate your reply!

You’re welcome!
I don’t know what host you use, but when you are running in to trouble with 32 bits VSTi’s crashing or not showing the GUI, be sure to check jBridge’s bit bridge. It’ll cost a small fee but can save you a heap of trouble when working with (older) 32 bit plugs in a 64 bit enviroment.

On a side note, you say you just copy the DLL’s over. I would personally always re-install the plugins on the new OS.
Future version installers of the plugins will find the appropriate plugin paths easier then.
