N13 randomly picks MIDI inputs when creating instrument tracks

hello!
is there a way to set the default MIDI input to “All MIDI Inputs” for new Instrument tracks?

Today it chose “Midi Fighter Twister” and I’m sure there’s a logic to this

PS: creating a track preset is an option but it’s a workaround and I’m sure there’s a way to make that a default?

N13 (and Cubase) default to the “last-selected MIDI Input” chosen when the last Instrument Track was created. There is a wee “Add Track” dialog box that first prompts you to make these selections. My guess is that when you added a track previously you selected the Midi Fighter Twister input, and upon creating the second Instrument track you just clicked “Add Track” and accepted the defaults.

Thanks Thor

thing is that I never actively picked MIDI Fighter Twister and I haven’t been using it for a while.

it was also the first track I created.
that’s what’s puzzling XD
not sure why devs created that feature as default in first place since if I add a track, I obviously need to play that track
Having out of the box the default All MIDI Inputs will solve all these unnecessary tinkerings

is there a way to default “All MIDI Inputs” somewhere?

My initial selection reverts to All Midi inputs if the last selected midi device is NOT available at project load (or creation of empty/template).

If you always want new instrument tracks set to All Midi, just ensure you selected All Midi when creating the last track, and all new tracks will default to All Midi. Copying/Duplicating tracks won’t follow this, of course, and there may be some other wonky behavior if you’re swapping midi devices around while in a session, but I’ve not run into that.

I think a “Best Practice” for you may be to ensure you’re looking at the Add Track dialogs before you click Add Track and to leverage templates, etc.

But to explicitly answer your question, the “default” is the last selection unless the last selection isn’t available.

t

got it.

There are still some unknowns for me but with that Best Practice is ok.
Thank you so much for your insights Thor
