In N15, MP4 video decompressing speed and quality is much worse than N13. See compare the same frame accessed by nudge 1 frame back. Martin
In what way are you surprised?
as far as I can tell to get those types of artefacts you must be using H264 with intra frames, you are not supposed to do that. If you want to have frame by frame stability, you use professional way working with video files that means minimum H264 without intra frames or even better you use Apple pro RES or similar professional video formats that don’t use intraframe compression.
Looking at the time code it actually shows that you haven’t moved a frame or that you indeed have very high compression with intra frame compression
Hi. I’m surprising that in N13 the same frame is nice (second screenshot), with no visible artefacts, and in N15 is full of artefacts (first screenshot). Is it logical that I expected comparable quality ? Martin
I’ve noticed this as well, however it does help force us to convert the video into something that is more compatible with Nuendo, which also has other benefits for smoother sessions
Yes, of course — if I use DNxHD, DNxHR, or ProRes, I won’t worry about artifacts. However, MP4 (H.264) is the only format in which Nuendo can replace audio in video file. (It’s very clever for common web video production.)
But this still doesn’t solve the problem that Nuendo 15 suddenly plays video worse than previous versions.
FWIW i use 2 videos in my timeline. A h264 and a prores. The prores is for editing and playback. For export i switch to the h264 track and this works well.
