I have a Komplete Kontrol Keyboard being delivered soon, I wonder if Komplete Kontrol can be used as intended (it’s knobs control KK) and have Cubase MIDI remoted be used as intended? I’m thinking there are going to be problems. Does anybody have this set up?
Hi, by default NI’s midi keyboards come with native support for Cubase.
In order to use the new midi remote, you can either use the MIDI mode of the Komplete Kontrol, or the DAW, in which case there are indeed some things to take care of first.
Which model are you expecting?
Hi mchantzi, thanks for the reply. I’m expecting the S61 MkII but if it is too big for my shelf I will be getting the the S49 Mk II instead.
Which am I best of using then, MIDI remote integration or KK integrations? Having ‘pages’ of controls for synths like Serum with KK is a must. I also like how I can have control of the native EQ and filters in Cubase by mapping them out on a general MIDI keyboard, and the ‘AI’ feature is good as well.
I was looking forward to the keyboard, but now I expect frustration
NI’s integration comes with mixer select/mute/solo/volume/pan, auto read-write, transport controls and some other buttons for commands like undo, duplicate, save, etc.
The way you describe it, I would suggest that you try my own implementation using the new midi remote, which indeed uses pages for many elements. You can read more about it, here:
Are you not using the KK plugin in Cubase? I meant use pages within KK, so all controls of a synth can be used with its various pages. MIDI remote has ‘pages’ too but I don’t think there is a way to control more than 8 quick controls with an instrument using the KK keyboard only
In my implementation there are pages/banks of 8 controls each. There are buttons assigned to changing banks.
Note that my script is about DAW handling, and is independent of NI’s implementation for Komplete Kontrol which you can still use as is, there will be no conflicts at all, since in order to use Komplete Kontrol VST, you put your controller to “PLUGIN” mode, while for using its DAW implementation (mine or NI’s or of others) you put your controller to “DAW” mode.
Concerning your question about 3rd party VSTs, there are use libraries for many popular VSTs (such as Serum that you’ve mentioned) however if you’re interested more in controlling these plugins’ parameters and not about browsing presets (which Komplete Kontrol VST does exceptionally well when of course you buy these libs) then midi remote is good enough.
Note that my script is about DAW handling, and is independent of NI’s implementation for Komplete Kontrol which you can still use as is, there will be no conflicts at all, since in order to use Komplete Kontrol VST, you put your controller to “PLUGIN” mode
So I can use all the functionality of the KK plugin as well as the having access to different pages in MIDI Remote at the same time? I really hope so I thought there would be conflicts between the knobs in the KK plugin and the ‘quick controls’ directly above in the Cubase window.
So I guess ‘PLUGIN’ mode is the button on the KK controller? How do you get into “DAW” mode?
I already use different pages in Cubase MIDI remote and have something similar but more basic to your set up. Your implementation looks very nice
No, as far as I know, no conflicts at all.
By pressing the DAW button as well
You can place the Komplete Kontrol into MIDI mode (again this has a dedicated button) and use your own implementation as well, you’ll face no problem at all!
Thanks for your time mchantzi! I’m getting excited again I’m pretty sure this will improve my workflow quite a bit.
I’ll be sure to test your script out also, or at the very least steal a few ideas.
