This might be obvious but I just can’t figure how to do it. I’ve seen people working on Cubase and their midi editor/piano roll is on their project window. Anyone can tell me how do I turn that option on?

Right click on a midi track and select Track Control Settings.
Move the Edit in Place option from hidden to visible and Apply.
Now you have a button in the track list to enable/disable this.
