Need help condensing clarinets 1-2, trumpets 1-2 in score

My apologies if this has been covered — new user to Dorico Pro 6, switching from Finale and finally getting around to learning the program. Moving slowly right now, but convinced that I’ll really enjoy it with more use.

I’m revising a school song for young band and would like to condense Clarinets 1-2 and Trumpets 1-2 in the score. I’ve followed every instruction in online Help and watched some videos for an answer, but can’t make it work. However, I’ve had no problem creating a custom group of bassoon, trombone, and euphonium and condensing it.

I’ve attached the file (uncondensed). Thanks for any help you can provide.

Welcome to the forum, Todd. The issue is the breath marks. It’s not at all obvious, I grant you, but the breath marks all appear at the same rhythmic position, but they need to be actually located at the same rhythmic position in order for the music to condense.

Delete the breath marks from e.g. the clarinet 1 and 2 staves, then recreate them by extending the caret across both staves, then using the Shift+H popover. Provided all the breath marks are at precisely the same rhythmic position, the music will condense.

Daniel: Thanks so much for your quick and helpful reply. Now I understand better how to input and place breath marks across multiple parts.

I purchased Dorico 5 last August when MakeMusic announced the end to Finale, but I had so many projects going that I waited until this summer’s academic break to begin learning it. I purchased the upgrade to Dorico 6 and only began using it about three days ago, taking a couple of existing scores and inputting them newly in Dorico. It’s a bit of a mind-boggle at first, but I’m enjoying many of the features, especially the formatting of pages and the look of the finished work. Dorico’s online help and this forum are outstanding. Thanks again.

You’re very welcome. I’m glad you’re finding your feet with Dorico, and please don’t hesitate to ask for help when you need it.

Here’s a version without the page override on the first page.
Changed the first page template instead.

Note: you can have multi-line text under File->Project info->composer, but you have to paste it from a text editor, or, like I did, add it to the Other Information field, and cut/paste it from there.
