Hi all,
I’m a relatively new Dorico user, so any help is much appreciated! I am running into a few problems with the playback, and am unsure how to fix them.
I’m working on an arrangement that includes bari sax; in write mode, it only produces one pitch, no matter where I assign the note. In play mode, this issue seems to resolve itself, but I would prefer to be able to hear it while I am working on it (this issue doesn’t happen with any other instruments, as far as I can tell).
Further, when I playback my melody in the trumpet, the longest duration it will play is a quarter note, even if I’ve assigned a half note/longer duration.
Again, I’m pretty new to the software, so any simple/ step-by-step explanations/solutions are much appreciated! Thanks in advance!
Welcome to the forum, @Asm_Kane. It sounds like perhaps you’ve been making some manual changes to the sound assignment in the VST plug-ins you’re using? Especially when you’re new to Dorico, I’d recommend sticking to the safer ground of using the built-in playback templates to avoid any confusing problems like this.
Go to Play > Playback Template and choose one of the factory templates from the list there (it’s OK to re-choose the one that’s already selected), then click Apply and Close. That will cause Dorico to reset all the sounds for playback and should put you back on an even keel.
Hi @dspreadbury , thanks for the advice! Forgive me as I’m still learning, but I don’t see the “playback template” anywhere in Play mode? I haven’t, to my knowledge, been playing with any of the preset instrument sounds. I’m using Dorico 5 on a Macbook, would that have an effect on it?
The bari sax issue has seemingly been resolved by “turning it off and turning it back on again”; I deleted the player/part layout and re-added the player in “Setup”.
Any thoughts on the staccato trumpet? I’ve checked everything I could think of in terms of settings.
Thanks again!
Sorry, when I said Play > Playback Template, I meant the Play menu in the menu bar at the top of the screen.
