Need notation help

Hey Forum;
Can anyone guide me through inputting this rhythm in 4/4?

I’ve tried everything I can think of.
Thanks in advance for the help.
Bill

In note input mode. At the third beat, enter Shift ; 3:2e for eight note tuplets, move the caret two steps to the right with the arrows, and enter an eighth note.

Thanks Jesele;
By “input mode” I assume you mean “Write” mode?
Using shift doesn’t seem to affect anything (I’m using Dorico Version 6.2.30.6245 (May 29 2026).
I still can’t get the quarter rest/8th rhythm notated as a triplet.
Any other ideas?
Let me know;
Thanks, Bill

No, I mean when you use Shift-N to enter note input mode, or double-click the staff so that the caret (cursor) is visible. Then move the cursor to the third beat, use Shift ; to open the tuplet popover, and enter 3:2e. Finally, move the cursor with the right arrow two steps and enter the eight note. If you just write 3:2 it will default to the note value you have selected, which defaults to quarter notes.

Note input mode:

I think I’m not being clear.
I want the 2 8th note triplets under the triplet group symbol to be a single quarter note rest, not 2 8th note rests.
Make sense?
BTW: just hitting ; brings up the tuplet popover. No shift key is needed.
I want this:

not this:

Possible?
Bill

  • Select the first 8th note / quaver rest
  • Press o to enable Force Duration
  • Press 6 to get a quarter note / crotchet rest

Ah, sorry, my bad. Do what @Vadian said.

Jesper

Many thanks Vadian; that worked!
