Nested repeats 'pairing'...?

I have a passage with repeats (as ||: – :|| barlines), and inside that section, there’s another repeat.

Thus: ||: -------- ||: — :|| ----------- :||

Currently, Dorico is doing the inner repeat fine, but marks the outer repeat as problematic.

In other words, the end outer repeat is trying to go back to the inner repeat start (b. 140), and the initial start repeat is “unpaired”.

How can I fix this? Is there a way to set the end repeat’s ‘target’? Granted, I suppose that nested repeats are essentially ambiguous without some further clarification.

I take it D.S. will not work in the context you are facing.

I can add a Segno and Dal Segno, which works, though Proofreading is still flagging the barline repeat notation as problematic.

(And the inner repeat doesn’t repeat on the second time…!)

Do you have this one ticked, in Library > Playback Options > Repeats?

That fixed it, thanks.

Though I’d still like to know if there is a way to fix the “unpaired” proofreading alert.

I think, that nested repeats should be avoided, because there are always amibiguous. Some people even think, that they are wrong, but I didn’t find any proof for this. Gould and Read don’t mention them.
