New Feature/Design-Change Request: Window Title-bar Color

Hi all, I looked for a topic on this and didn’t find anything very close.

Also, if there’s anything already like this, I couldn’t find it (but feel free to point me to it)

SCENARIO: Running Cubase Pro (in Dark mode) on Windows 11 with the Main window, 3 Mix Console windows (Tracks, FX, Groups/Main-out), the Control Room window (separate from a mix console). All of the title-bars are black (I suppose all white when not in dark mode).

Add to that, running instrument windows that also have the same color title bar. That’s several windows, all with the same title bar color. Then there’s the occassional Editor separate window, and the several possible dialog-box selected from menus (Audio Connections, Key Commands, etc.)

PROBLEM: they are often hard to differentiate, which leads to frequent errors when trying to move them around. This is true even though I use dual monitors.

REQUEST: Any design change that would help differentiate the windows better than now.

My first thought is to have user-assigned colors for each window type (much like we have a color palette for track colors).

But at least a single color for title-bar that’s different than the color of the rest of the window (this could probably be done at the operating system window, but only one color for all window title-bars).

Thanks, Chris

PS: let me know if there’s a better place for this. I searched around and all indications were that the forums are where feature requests should be posted.

In Win10 you can define the title bar color in the Windows settings. It’s an OS level setting.
Maybe it works the same on Win11?

It does :+1:

Yes, but that changes the title bar for all windows, in all applications.

Each application has a choice of running uniquely (dark mode, for instance), so it can also have it’s own UI preferences. It would be nice to have this change for at least that one color (even if not a different color per window type) for just this application, not the entire OS.

One example is Microsoft Office apps, where defaults for Excel is a green title-bar, while Word has blue, etc., while Outlook choses the default user-pref Windows title-bar color.

Default Window/UI-element colors for Adobe apps are different than the default user-pref Windows colors.
