New Mac mini. Which model?

2.0GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7 or the
2.7GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i7

I have reviewed benchmarks and each seems to have it’s strengths. Which is better for music recording?

I realize this is probably a novice question to most of you guys. I’m coming from a core 2 duo 2.4.
The sales agent today indicated the quad core to be a better choice.

Does any one here agree…disagree?

Highlights from some reading I just went through for you…

A dual core processor is basically 2 processors in 1, with some loss.
A quad core is 2 dual core processors in 1.

So, a quad core would be twice as fast as a dual core, while a dual core is twice as fast as a single core ( in theory).

A multi-core chip can execute multiple instructions at the same time.
Dual cores have two cores, and quad cores have four. All the cores are on the same chip though. So, they share the same memory, and data path to the motherboard.

So, a quad core chip may be able to execute the instructions four times faster, but that doesn’t mean it can receive instructions from ram four times faster.

Anyway, in answer to your question, they will both do the job well, I guess budget is important and may be a deciding factor… (RAM is important dont forget)

Very good info there m4cot82.

Thank you very much!

IMHO

The new i7 Sandybridge processors are killer.

I am looking at getting the same chip in a MacBook Pro "13 .
With 8 G of ram and 256 G SSD, it should be very nice with Cubase.

I heard Apple will be making a 15" Macbook Air
soon. Wonder what will be under the hood?
