Please allow me to share with you here another work, this time an original work for French Horn ensemble, which I composed for the 2024 Southeast Horn Workshop Horn Ensemble Composition Competition. It wasn’t chosen as the first place or honorable mention prize winner, unfortunately, but I’m still happy with the way it turned out. The piece is titled, “Bohemian Galop,” and it is written for a French Horn Sextet. I’ve created a “scrolling score” video for it and posted it on YouTube:
Here’s hoping that you enjoy it. If you’d like to obtain a copy of the score and parts, please send me a PM and I’ll make arrangements with you. I am eager to get a live recording made of the piece. Thank you for listening and watching!

I like it very much. Noteperformer I assume. I’d like to hear it with better-sounding instruments, but you should have at least gotten Honorable Mention. Congratulations!

You’re correct, it was done with NP 4.4. I recorded it into Corel’s MultiCam Capture 2.0 Lite, so I wonder if that had anything to do with the sound quality of the end product.
As for honorable mention, I don’t know - the concert for the winners will take place in late March (see Competitions - 2024 Southeast Horn Workshop for details), so it’ll be interesting to hear them. My brother-in-law, a professional horn player himself once upon a time, predicts the winners will be more contemporary-sounding than my piece. I tend to agree with that assessment.
Anyway, thank you for the kind words! I do appreciate them.
Those words “contemporary sounding” are revolting to me. In other words, we’re supposed to write music that doesn’t sound like music. Chaos rules.

It’s been a year (almost), and I have some major news concerning “Bohemian Galop.” As predicted, it did not win last year’s competition. However, effective yesterday, February 20th, 2025, I now have a signed publishing agreement with the International Horn Society for them to publish the work via their Online Music Sales portal! It’s in the process of being put online now, and it could go up as soon as today, if things move quickly enough. To say that I am stoked would be an understatement.
I’ll post the link to it when it does go live. I couldn’t have done it without Dorico and NotePerformer! Thank you!!!
