new PC 2k7€ for nuendo

Hi,

i’m looking on pc forums what config new config to buy. But i realise i should ask here. So i would love if you guys could help. and recommend what to buy.

i do soundtracks for films. loooots of VSTi mainly kontakt with 8dios, spitfire, … lots of orchestral music, (i use also, omnisphere, maschine, SD2, all swam products, VSL) i use a template with all my vstis preloaded/ routed/ eqd/compressed/colored/named but unactive (like … 1000+tracks)
if i use effects (reverds, delays) i put it directly on the track (even for reverbs) or substems (30 of them) or stems (10 of them)

i also do mix for tv then i use also some kontakt for SFX, and basic plugs, i use DOP alot (!) speakerphone, fabfilter L2 / Mb / simplon (alot) / softube sound toys. i don’t do 5.1 but i have to do that now.

i use 1RME fireface802 as main INs and speakers and RMEfireface on my modular setup.

Right now i have an old i72600k with 16Ram on windows 10. W10 is on dedicated SSD Crucial MX500 1TB 3D NAND SATA 2.5, main samples are on SSD (use 900Go) , other samples on seagate baracuda 4To (use 1To).
i can work really with big epic score but when i reach end of my musics PC gets slow… Disk cache load gets spikes :stuck_out_tongue:

i want to put 2700€… say 2400 to 3000 max max.

but really i don’t know where to start.
on PCspecialist i selected a setup based on “intel workstation” and i got this :
MOYEN TOUR FRACTAL DEFINE 7 BLACK SILENCE
Processor 10 Core Intel® Core™ Intel Core i9-10900K (3.7 GHz / 5.3 GHz) socket FCLGA1200
mother board MSI Z490-A PRO ATX Socket 1200 Intel Z490 Express - 4x DDR4 - SATA 6Gb/s + M.2 PCI-E NVMe - USB 3.1 - 2x PCI-Express 3.0 16x
(RAM)128 Go Corsair VENGEANCE DDR4 3000 MHz (4 x 32 Go) {the more the better right ?}
graphic card 6 Go NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 2060 - HDMI, DP - Compatible VR ! {steinberg recommend middle range… is that it ? should i go with output video blackmagic ?}
system disk 1To SSD PCS 2,5 POUCES, SATA 6 Go (520 Mo/R, 470 Mo/W)
samples disk SSD M.2 2To SAMSUNG 970 EVO PLUS M.2, PCIe NVMe (jusqu’à 3500 Mo/R, 3300 Mo/W)
power CORSAIR 550W TXm SERIES™ SEMI-MODULAIRE 80 PLUS® GOLD, ULTRA-SILENCIEUX
fan for proc Noctua NH-U14S Performance
Windows 10 Pro 64 bits

and below is just for reference a resume i selected from this steinberg article to try to understand what i need to select. but all specs are hard to find on pcspecialist… maybe i should look for another website.

CPU
Processors with faster cores are preferable to a higher core count for real-time audio performance.
The more cores are available, the more thread synchronization is required. This can lead to a reduced processing power and slow down the system after all.
A higher core count might require a different RAM configuration (dual channel, quad channel) for optimal performance.
A higher amount of CPU cache (L2, L3) can have a positive impact on the real-time processing.
recommended
Intel Core i9 Desktop 6-18
Intel Xeon Desktop 4-56

chipset :
ask your sound card manufacturer. But it’s USB RME sound card i use and i find no recommendation

disk
rotational
S-ATA 10,000 RPM hard disks or SAS hard disks with up to 15,000 RPM can certainly help prevent throughput bottlenecks while offering large storage space.

but best is SSD
SSD M.2 or SSD

cache 32 to 128mb the more the better

max RAM

graphic card
some of our applications use hardware accelerated rendering for the graphical user interfaces (GUI) . Aim for modern middle class solutions
Graphics card with Open GL 2.0, DirectX 10 and WDDM 1.1 support (Windows only)

thx for any advice.

Look at the Gearslutz.com thread on this. I think it’s called “today we build a studio PC” or something like that. Start reading from the end because it’s a looong thread. But plenty of info and feedback in it.

Wish I could help but I don’t do that much work using virtual instruments.

ok thanks

I am in the same track of selecting new hardware, my current PC (i7-2700 4TB HDD , 16GB) is very very slow.
I am more going to stay in the desktop mobo instead of werkstation. I first thought of taking the Asus Prime Z490-A, but after reading many many reviews I’ll probably go for Asus ROG STRIX-490-E Gaming (more connectivity). I guess for me the mobo video is sufficient.
In your configuration your system disk is stil SATA connected which is way slower than a M.2. You could consider a mobo with two M.2 .
I also go from 16MB to 64MB, though maybe 32MB is enough. I can always extend later. You do directly a jump to 128MB ? But I currently fo no vids yet.
I use the PC Builder of alternate.fr
