New SMuFL fonts!

Sadly, I don’t think you can purchase the SMuFL versions of Abraham Lee’s fonts anymore. He closed the Music Type Foundry shop some time ago.

The old “8-bit” versions should still work in Finale, if you use a non-SMuFL document style. (Though I believe he isn’t entirely happy with these old versions still being distributed.)

Oh. I see. Still in this case, it would be appreciated if someone who has the fonts posted them on a repository, or somehow made them available for the community to use. I’m using Leland with some symbol substitutions at the moment, but it’s not supposed to be an exact emulation of SCORE font, which is what I’m requested to aim for.

The SMuFL versions were not free fonts, so that would break the licence terms.

I don’t think there is a SMuFL exact replica of the SCORE glyphs, so you’ll either have to use non-SMuFL fonts in Finale; or map the glyphs of a non-SMuFL font to the correct symbols in Dorico’s Music Symbols Editor and Notehead Set editor. And the Tonality editor for the accidentals.

Either that, or create your own SMuFL version of the font!

There’s a font called Partita, which I think is supposed to be SCORE-like. Also MuseGraph’s Vienna (though, again, that’s a commercial font).

Have you tried Verovio and Lisping SMuFL fonts?

Leipzig is already included with Dorico 5.

I’m sorry to hear this news. Do we know why he closed the Music Type Foundry? I bought a version of Cadence many years ago. And was waiting to see more of his fonts become SMuFL fonts.

I think he was too busy with other work, and unable to give it the time it needed. He also wasn’t happy about the old versions being distributed, either, but once they were out on a free licence…
