New to computer recording

Hello I owned a Roland 1680 years ago and also an early version of cubase which I used mostly for midi. I want to get back into recording but I don’t know much about pc based multitrack recording and interfaces. Firewire, usb 2, pci sound card etc.

I have a new pc running windows 7 64 bit. I just bought a pc express USB 3.0 port card and I am planning on buying a external usb 3.0 hard drive for recording. I just bought a tascam us-mk2 usb 2.0 interface with cubase le5 which doesn’t seem to be working. |I am going to return it and I am thinking of buying a m-audio Audiophile 2496 pci card to resolve some problems. I have a mixer with analog and digital outputs which I could run to the card to interface with the computer.

Does anyone have any suggestions on cheap to mid range interfaces. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Maria

Did Roland exist 1680 years ago?

I have noticed some usb 2 interfaces don’t like usb 3…

Some aliens must of left one in the Maya ruins 1680 years ago. Roland has been around forever
