Newbie to VST Live - Importing an exported project from cubase (no layers)

Hi, only just trying out VST live 3.

I have exported a project from Cubase Pro 15 (vst live/export) which has a few VST instrument tracks & Midi and audio tracks…

Ive then imported to a New Project in VSTLive 3

Seems fine in that I get my audio tracks and midi and vst instruments and it plays back… correct tempo etc

however I don’t have any “Layers” and therefore each vst instrument doesn’t show up in the main mixer screen… is this correct? - do i need to somehow convert the imported tracks to a layer?

(seem the only way to control the vsti volumes is in the tracks view/click on each instrument/fader)

Is there a way to convert each to a layer (without losing preset etc) or should the import of already had alayer for each?

(in cubase they were “track instruments” not “Rack”

thanks!

Layers “types” are in VST Live only.

ok thanks so if i want to use layers from an imported project, i basically need to manually create a layer with the VSTi preset used? (and then re-assign the midi channel to use the layer?)

Yes, or a instrument tracks as alternative, but if you are okay with Global Layers, then song song exp/imp wont affect the

Thanks, I believe the import from cubase did already create them as a “instrument track” which did work… they playback fine…

however from what i can see the only way I can get the instrument to appear in the main mixer, is if i manually change it to a layer? (e.g save vsti preset, create new layer, assign vsti as a layer, load preset, then change midi track to use layer)

is it correct that only layers will show in the main mixer? (as all I see when tracks are instruments is the stereo out & main output)

No, but need to extend SONG channel “e”
You can global-group them (later, if prefer)
