No Audio with Apple Vision Pro

My personal circumstances have been a bit nuts in 2026, and unfortunately I will be confined to a bed in a skilled nursing facility for at least the next few months. To keep myself sane, and at least somewhat productive, I’ve brought my MacBook Pro and my Apple Vision Pro with the intent of developing music in my preferred DAW, Nuendo. Unfortunately, I’m having problems getting audio to work without an external I/O interface and am seeking help.

I found with my AirPods that I could create a new aggregate audio device and assign my AirPods Pro 2 to them to get audio somewhat functioning. With that created, I could then launch Nuendo, open the studio setup, choose the newly created aggregate audio device, and then connecting my monitors to it as usual in the audio setup works. My only problem there is that I think the sample rate of the AirPods Pro 2 makes everything an octave lower or slower or something. I haven’t figured that out yet.

But at least I thought that would give me the “template” for how to get audio working properly with my Apple Vision Pro. To wit, I’ve created an audio aggregate device and configured it as I mentioned above, but I don’t get any audio at all when using it. To be clear, I’m connecting the AVP to my MacBook Pro, which lets me use Nuendo on a beautifully huge virtual screen floating above my bed. That’s great. But the only audio I can get working so far is the built-in audio which always plays out of the MacBook speakers and not the AVP audio system, which is suboptimal at best.

Can anyone offer guidance as to how I might get the audio working properly with the AVP? Thanks in advance.

What samplerate do you run your sessions at?

Can you get ‘normal’ sound from your macbook pro to the apple vision pro?

another option if Nuendo fails on all fronts: neumann has a thing for logic: VIS – Virtual Immersive Studio

logic has a long demo time and i think it can be extended somewhat easily… just search for it.

Thanks for being the first to offer some thoughts! As to your questions, I’ve tried a few different sample rates with seemingly no difference. I mostly stick to the default 44.1 but have tried 48 and some other values without any better success.

As to “normal sound” from my MacBook Pro when using the Apple Vision Pro, yeah, it’s normally a perfect experience. I wear the AVP, open my MBP, gesture-tap the “Connect…” bubble that appears over it, and I get a huge, beautiful virtual screen and audio from the AVP that works flawlessly under all other circumstances. I can listen to music, watch videos in the browser, and even take meetings via FaceTime, Microsoft Teams, and other applications that make heavy use of audio/visual features. In all those cases, the AVP speakers/mic combo is flawless. Nuendo is the one oddity in the room so far.

I didn’t even think of trying Logic. I started using Cubase decades ago, so I think I’m pretty firmly a Steinberg partisan, but I do in fact have a license for Logic–got it with the new MBP. I might try that and see if the AVP works with it.
