I’m moving from Finale to Dorico Pro 6. Everything is installed. There is no DORICO icon to open it. It isn’t in my Windows Task Manager.
How do I open it?

Welcome to the Forum.
How did you install Dorico, via the Download Assistant?
Usually there is a Dorico Icon right on the desktop, if not you can try to launch it via the Windows Start Menu. Click on the Windows symbol and then type Dorico. This should find the program and allow you to click on it.
However, I would run a reinstall from the Download Assistant and then the icon should also appear on the Desktop.
The icon is simply a shortcut. If you find the exe file you can “create shortcut” from this, and then place it on the desktop. Should not happen though
Thank you
Yes, I did install the Steinberg Download Assistant several times.
Tried everything else. Looked in every menu for an icon. Still no luck.
I sent a help ticket to Steinberg in hopes they can help.
It’s very odd
Thanks again,]
Patrick
If you don’t want to wait:
Look for the Dorico.exe file, do a “create shortcut” from this, and then drag the shortcut onto your desktop or into your task bar.
Tried it. Doesn’t work
In what way doesn’t it work?
After all is installed as guided there is no icon on the desktop to open and use it. It’s not findable as Dorico.exe either. There’s no way to open and use the dorico program.

You’re on Windows, right? Do you have a folder at c:\Program Files\Steinberg\Dorico6 with the Dorico6.exe inside
If it does not find Dorico, then let’s go back a few steps.
You have “downloaded Steinberg Download Assistant several times.”
This is the Download assistant, it is not Dorico itself. The Download assistant program needs to be opened (sign in to your Steinberg account) so you can download and install a Steinberg program you have purchased, in this case, Dorico.
After purchase, an email is sent to you with an activation code to redeem the program you have purchased to your account. You will need to redeem the code and follow the “Step-by-step” on this page.
I’ll look as soon as the soccer game ends.
Thanks
Patrick

Windows use the Search (magnifying glass) on the Taskbar to search for “Dorico” which should (in theory) find it and give you the normal options of Open, Open file location (to make a shortcut), Pin to Taskbar etc. so you can trigger it to open in whichever way you wish.
Couldn’t get it to work
Thanks anyway
All the best
Patrick
If you describe your steps one by one and tell us at which point exactly it does not work, we will be able to help.
If you find and open Steinberg Download assistant, it should look like this (on the right) where it is showing my Dorico has been installed (green, and if I want to install it again).
If there is no green, it should say to install.
This only works if you have redeemed your activation code (see Redeem Code top left), which is what you receive after purchase with an email.
Otherwise as @k_b has said, we really need more information from you, otherwise we are guessing.
Here’s where I’m at this morning.
I Uninstalled everything to do with Dorico or Steinberg and then reinstalled it all.
Then I did the following:
Go to FINALE Website
Log In to FINALE Account
Click FAQ of DORICO Pro Crossgrade
Watch the Steinberg Download Assistant Quick Start Guide Video on YouTube
Open the Steinberg Website and get your Steinberg Product - for WINDOWS
Downloaded Steinberg Download Assistant
Ended up at the Product Page
Since I downloaded DORICO PRO 5 and DORICO PRO 6 both are listed under My Products
Clicked DORICO PRO 5 and Re-Installed all 9 Products
On the PRODUCTS page it shows DORICO PRO 6 listed with Redeem Code (red) button
When I open it and enter my code from FINALE it shows
Redeem Code page opened showing “Redemption of DORICO PRO 6 UPDATE FROM DORICO PRO 5 (GRACE PERIOD UPDATE FROM DORICO PRO 5 CROSSGRADE) successful!”
Opening that tab is says “License added: July 3, 2026 Used on 1 computer and lists my laptop.
Clicked the DORICO PRO 6 icon on the PRODUCTS page and Re-Installed all 12 Products
After all in installed I have 5 icons on my desktop: “Activation Manager, Steinberg Library, Steinberg Download Assistant, HALion Sonic, and Groove Agent SE 6.”
There is no icon for DORICO PRO 6 on my desktop
In the START menu there is no icon for DORICO PRO 6
I checked my DOWNLOADS and under Steinberg there is a file WINARM64
There are 14 files. All are empty.
Searching in my start menu for Dorico.exe produces nothing.
Still no icon to open Dorico Pro 6 or any way to access it to use it.
Thanks for your help
Patrick
