Hi everyone
I’m currently working intensively with IconicaSketch for iPad, both standalone and within Cubasis with a LaunchKey Mini MK3 as a controller. I noticed the following:
In standalone mode, pressing the modulation strip on the Launchkey changes the dynamics for legato, etc. (upper semicircle). However, the mod wheel on the GUI does not move. The same applies to pitch. In Cubasis, the Launchkey’s modulation strip has no effect on dynamics and, unlike pitch bend, the Cubasis Keys GUI modulation controls do not move either. This is the same in Etude and Verve. Other AUv3 synths respond and show the use of the pitch and mod controls on the screen.
As I said, only with the external controller.
Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?
Best regards
Hi veldrijder,
I have the same problem with my Novation Impulse 61 keyboard and I can’t understand why this is happening, but the good news is I downloaded a great free app called MIDI Wrench, you just have to launch it and leave it running in the background every time you use Cubasis, it acts like a internal MIDI link, it does not use any resources, it is called the Swiss Army Knife for MIDI, it also has a monitor window that lets you see exactly what goes on when you operate your Launchkey, give it a try, that’s the first process of elimination

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the tip—I’ll try it out as soon as possible.
I haven’t gotten very far with MIDI Wrench yet—I don’t quite understand the program and its settings.
But I noticed the following:
When I connect my large Komplete Kontrol controller (MIDI DIN > USB) to the iPad, the mod wheel’s rotations are displayed in Cubasis, and the dynamics also work in IconicaSketch… Huh?
It’s as if the LaunchkeyMini is somehow being filtered out/blocked here (the modulation)… but only within Cubasis. Example: Korg Moog. No modulation with the strip within Cubasis. Standalone, yes. Is that possible, and if so, how?
First of all, tap on the settings icon in MIDI Wrench (MW) and disable the four switches as shown in my screenshot. With the Launchkey connected, just press any note on the keyboard and you should see the info appearing on the MW window, now operate the Mod wheel and notice if it is working and also what MIDI Channel it is using, compare this with your large keyboard and see if they are both sending MOD data on the same channel.

Thanks, that helped me a lot. Midi Echo = On and the Launchkey Mod strip also responds in Cubasis Key.
However, Midi Wrench shows me no difference between the Komplete controller and the Launchkey Mini, both send on CH=1. The only thing that stands out: In MIDI Wrench’s “Incoming MIDI Events,” an input event from Komplete is only displayed when a key/control is pressed. With Launchkey, it rattles constantly, even without being pressed. Of course, there could be other reasons for this. I’m not familiar enough with it to know.
Best regards
It sounds like there is a fault with the LaunchKey, as you move the Mod Wheel you will see the values increase on the MW window - both keyboards should be identical in this respect, but if the LaunchKey does not increase the Mod value then it’s definitely a fault.
Mike
The Launchkey values change as they should between 0 and 127.
Have you tried using a AUv3 synth to see if the Mod Wheel adds modulation, be aware not all plugins are set to receive Modulation on all presets, this is just a process of elimination, when I tried using the Mod Wheel with Iconica Sketch the Mod Wheel acts as a volume swell expression
