Windows 10 Pro, Dorico 5 up to date. When closing a large symphonic project Dorico disappears from my screen with no spinning (or otherwise) indicator that there is some process going on. It does not return to the hub and it looks like Dorico has crashed. But it hasn’t - it’s just a very long wait without an activity indicator. For me it’s unnerving. Smaller, one page, projects close much quicker but still no indicator. Also there does not seem to be a “save” indicator. I cannot follow if my project is saved or not when I save it. I do not use autosave. Has anyone else had this problem? Please advise.
If you close the last window belonging to a Dorico project and there are unsaved changes, you will always be prompted about whether you want to discard those changes, so if the window closes without any prompt, you can be sure you are not losing unsaved changes.
Do your larger projects use a large number of VST instruments? If so, it could be that the unloading of the VST data is what causes there to be a delay before the Hub reappears. In theory this can all be done asynchronously, but in practice I guess that this could on some systems result in a delay before the Hub is shown.
Thank you @dspreadbury Daniel. I have not lost any data and I don’t use Dorico for recording - sometimes I use playback to check for wrong notes. But I do know that when I assign a player Dorico uses Halion to assign a VST sound - that could be it. I have considered changing that behavior but if I am recalling correctly this did not happen in Dorico 4 for me. It really isn’t a problem now that I understand what may be going on, but the lack of feedback from Dorico when saving or closing did give me pause. Thanks.
