No Licence Found

Has been working fine (as in, earlier today fine), tonight I fired it up and got ‘Licence not found…’ etc. Went to download assistant, wouldn’t open up, redownloaded and installed download assistant, library manager and activation assistant. two of the three won’t run, activation assistant does and says the problem is ‘steinberg license engine is not responding … and … due to an unknown error please restart computer etc.’. restarting doesn’t work. Big probs.

Assume you’re on Windows… In the Task Manager, is there a process called SteinbergLicenseEngine.exe?

No actually, on Mac. never seen this before. Saw some good info on another thread about deleting activation assistant, clearing usr/tmp/ creating fresh admin account and then open, which did work for me, but im mean, thats pretty hopeless , i need to be able to use it with my regular account.

Apologies if this sounds like Mr Obvious but is the missing license possibly on the dongle?

I just ran into this same thing, I don’t carry my dongle around with my laptop because I have Steinberg Activation and HALion/Sonic. I updated HALion/Sonic to 7.2.x and suddenly was getting missing license for Sonic SE… yes, I did install Sonic from SDM because SDM said it wasn’t installed… Turns out that license lives on the dongle, not covered by my HALion/Sonic 7 activation license.

Thats ok always worth asking those things, but no, the answer turned out to be something i don’t fully understand (found on another thread) but if you’re having issues like this try running the following in the terminal:
sudo chmod a+w /private/tmp

I’ve been getting this a lot in my Mac and it’s very irritating. I’ll be using groove agent with my purchased Marco Minnemann pack. Shut down Cubase and do some other stuff. Come back and open previous session again and it will now say no license for Marco. Strangely it usually works for the first 30 seconds before the error.

It came back. This is garbage. I’ve emailed support, no answer as yet

I have exactly the same problem. I think the solution is to uninstall the e-licenser only ‘HALion Sonic SE Content’, but I can’t figure out which pieces to remove in Steinberg Library Manager… any idea what SLM calls it?

same or similar here! any hint might help

I looked through all the presets in HALion and discuvered that one particular content set was showing red/missing - (drumroll please…) HALion Symphonic Orchestra.

  1. I removed HSO in Steinberg Library Manager
  2. opened Cubase - when prompted to “locate”, “ignore” or “remove” the missing HSO vstpresets, select “remove” (1st time I reattached and they reappeared in the Library Manager, had to re-remove in Library Manager, 2nd time I simply click “remove” instead)

This worked… HSO was the old e-Licenser only library that was throwing the error.
