No license to upgrade selectable

Hi, Does anyone have any idea what’s going on here…
I bought Halionsonic and installed it on my old machine with a USB eLicenser. A few years ago I purchased an upgrade to Halionsonic 3 for a new machine but that uses a soft USB license. I’ve just bought a new computer and purchased an upgrade to Halion 7 but cannot seem to verify the eLicenser. There’s no upgradable licensers when using elicenser control Centre.

Any ideas?

There is no such thing as a “soft USB license”. It’s one or the other. Once a license is on a USB-eLicenser, it’s not possible to move it to a Soft-eLicenser.

Your license must be on your USB-eLicenser from the way I understand your description of the situation. What exact license shows in the eLCC and what exact upgade did you purchase? A screenshot of your eLCC would be helpful (blur out any personal info such as eLicenser numbers).

Did you really update HALion Sonic to HALion Sonic 3, or did you purchase HALion Sonic 3 outright? That’s the only way I can see you having HALion Sonic 3 on a Soft-eLicenser.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I think I might have bought Halionsonic 3 outright and that’s why I have it working without the dongle on my MacBook. I have purchased an upgrade from Halionsonic 3 to Halion 7. Steinberg has been in touch with new codes but that hasn’t worked so far.
I’m in touch with them so hopefully they can resolve the matter, but I take note when you say you can’t move a licence from a USB eLicenser to a Soft-eLicenser. That’s going to be a problem for me if I want to upgrade Cubase 5 to 12 pro (I’m running the trial). I really wanted these keys out of my life for good.

In order for the upgrade code to work, it needs to see the HALion Sonic 3 license in you eLCC on the computer which you are using to apply the upgrade. Is the HS3 license present on that machine? If not, the upgrade won’t work.

My comment was based on pre-Steinberg licensing. If you update to a new Cubase version with the new Steinberg dongle-free licensing (Cubase 12 and forward) from an older USB-eLicenser based version, you will still have access to older versions if you plug in your dongle. You will also have the ability to use the new version on up to 3 computers dongle-free.

By the way, Cubase 13 is about to be launched … maybe tomorrow? Anyway, if you purchase 12 now, I bet you will be in the grace period for 13.

Anyway, if you need to get your old Soft-eLicenser based HS3 on a different computer so the upgrade code can see it, you need to do a reactivation through your MySteinberg account.

Thanks for the tip off re Cubase 13. I’ve still got around a week left on the trial so let’s see what happens.
I tried a few times to activate Halion but all it took was to open Steinberg Activation Manager and click on activate! I did require the codes Steinberg sent me though. Thanks a lot for your time and input.
