Hi all, Occasional Cubase user over many many years. Getting back into it.
I have moved Cubase 14 to a new laptop. The songs & tracks I had were all loading and playing fine.
NOW however, I am continually getting NO MACRO page message for HALION and “missing VST’s.” I am getting the same for Groove Agent.
The Library shows they are all loaded and registered.
All are in Programdata/Steinberg/Content
I have reinstalled EVERYTHING, (TWICE NOW) which is a lot of downloads, and I am using the Download Mgr.
Cubase 14 still does not see any HAlion instruments except VERVE.
Groove Agent is missing 5 out of 6 sets that I had from Cubase 12, and were working with 14 a day or so ago.
I am sure i have ALL the VST’s I have triple checked.
I’ve also done this via Media pool. But for some reason , Cubase is not finding them . I am getting NO MACRO PAGE message from HAlion
And no Groove Agent instruments other than basic.
Any suggestions ? What have i missed ?
If the library shows them and lists the locations how do I get Cubase to see them?
Hi, @SullyDKS
I think that we’re going to need the use the same terminology. Otherwise, things are going to be difficult :
which means ‘ALL the libraries’, I guess. If so, you should edit your thread title.
I also guess that it’s the MediaBay you are talking about (the Pool being something completely different related to a given project content).
If the cases, I think that it’s better to take things one by one, from this. So, could you name a library missing, say, for HALion 7 and :
- Post a screenshot of the Steinberg Download Assistant showing the named library,
- Post also a screenshot of the Steinberg Library Manager that shows the location of it ?
Additionaly, what have you exactly done in MediaBay concerning the libraries missing ?
Hi, Yes. Guilty as charged and dumb of me not to use precise language. 40 years in software - i should know better. Been using cubase on and off since v4 I believe. But I’m no expert still.
so…
“all the VST’s” = all the xxx.vstsound files that I am licensed to use. All that were on the old machine appear to be on the new laptop in exactly the same folder. programdata/steinberg/content
re: Mediabay - Yes, Apologies. I do know the pool is different. Again . My bad. Although I’ve never really used MediaBay outside of a project in play. Within a project the HAlion Media Bay does not list FLUX or “HAlion Sonic Factory” or “Iconica Sketch” any more.
Not sure if this image upload has worked.
This shows the HAlion in Library and no match appears to be in Media bay under VSTsound. Could this be the mis-match since Verve is lkisted and does appear in Cubase? Halion Sonic 7 standalone also only lists VERVE
I have done nothing in Mediabay regarding libraries missing, other than search a way to import or register or get them included. It’s not clear how.
Not sure what Download Assistant screen you want but…
Just to reiterate :- All the displayed VST’s in Library Mgr, were working in Cubase14. Then, unrelated, I had to wipe out the Windows account, and set up Windows user again. I reinstalled all , exactly as before, from Download
Assistant but now cannot get the VST’s to show. Hence V Confused.
Hi again, @SullyDKS
Your screenshots are OK, don’t worry about that.
OK. So let’s see first the Iconica Sketch case, as we both have it :
- On my end, the library is installed exactly at the same location and shows the same 4.34 Gb size.
- In your end as well as mine, it is listed as installed, as it should.
From which, I would like you to go in MediaBay and try to find the Iconica Sketch subfolder of the VST Sounds one, as below :
Do you have it ? If so, try to rescan it, with a [right-click] on it and choosing the Quick rescan Disk command. Is the library now visible both in MediaBay and Halion 7, after reopening its UI ?
And don’t worry about the ‘No Macro’ screen : I also get in certain circumstances…
I think this is the heart of the issue. ie. Mediabay isnt listing.
My complete VSTSound folder as per MediaBay is in the 1st screenshot above. (ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE) - Not much there is there ?
Despite Download Assistant installing ALL the others and Library showing them all as REGISTERED and the content folder having all the vstsound files.
But none are listed in Mediabay
I am now reinstalling all again.
There also appear to be hidden shortcuts in the Content folder.
Search finds them, but file explorer doesn’t list them, even with ‘show hidden files’ turned on. I’ve now wiped ALL my Content folder and am reinstalling.
AGAIN !!
2 days wasted on this so far. Cubase is trying my patience but I’m still willing to concee that maybe I’ve done something. But what I do not know.
Cubase is activated.
I followed and use download assistant to install.
It was working. I know it will work and I have tracks dependent on these vst’s. ho hum !!!
Really appreciate your support here. Thanks.
I’LL REPOST IN AN HOUR OR SO.
In the meantime, could you quickly post a screenshot of your VST Sounds folder, unfolded, but in MediaBay window, NOT in the Steinberg Library manager one ? I’m curious about its content.
EDIT - Additionaly, and before reinstalling everything, I would suggest to go in the following path :
C:\Users\[userName]\AppData\Local\Steinberg\Steinberg MediaBay Server
and rename or remove the mediabay3.db file. This will force Cubase to create another one, in case the former existing one could have been corrupted.
I’ve wiped the content directory and so the checkboxes in Mediabay aren’t accurate Bd.
Not sure which Mediabay window you mean. Ie. There is a ‘mediabay window’ when a VST is open within a project.
From an earlier view… (this is pretty much unfolded)
no HALion at all.
OK. Now for the EDIT part of my last post…
my Mediabay server is in LOCAL not ROAMING ???
Should that matter ?
Yes, it matters, as only the one in the …Local\Steinberg\Steinberg MediaBay Server folder is used by Cubase 14. The eventual other ones are remaining files used with previous Cubase versions.
SO I didnt put it there… Not my doing.
What scenario is needed.
I have now taken drastic action. I have deactivated my products. Uninstalled everything. Wiped out the USER account. Mul;tiple reboots etc.
Set up the USER account again. Am now reinstalling Cubase from ZERO onto effectively a new user account.
If the db goes into LOCAL again, am I ok to simply move it ?
It shouldn’t, unless there are still remaining ones, from previous Cubase versions. Actually, it’s easy to check that, by looking at the “last modified” date and hour, at the OS level. Once Cubase installed, go in MediaBay, do a rescan, quit Cubase ad see what are the “Last modified” values.
If you have actually uninstall everything, you should have one and only one remaining mediabay3.db file, after reinstallation of Cubase, located in the path I posted previously.
thanks… will report back ASAP. Long process downloading these files. I’m only on 50Mb broadband… Which is fine 99% of the time.
FYI - just checked on my old laptop. And the mediabay3.db was in LOCAL there, and that was running Cubase for years quite happily. From 10.5 onwards . There is no MEDIABAY SERVER directory in Roaming , only in Local. So the info above that it shouldnt matter , seems right.
This is because there was, at the time, a MediaBay database for each and every Cubase versions, source of potential conflicts and this, up to Cubase 12.
So, wisely, I think, Steinberg has unified all this since Cubase 13, locating the database in an unique location, independently of any Cubase installation.
But you are right, sorry : I just checked again and it’s now the …\Local path (since Cubase 14 ? I have the same file in …\Roaming but its last modified date is last october 19th, so it’s not that one that is currently used) that the new database is now installed : I’m going to correct this right away from my previous posts.
SO… GOOD NEWS
I’ve only downloded and installed the base set of Cubase and HAlion and Groove Agent. I stopped there and checked and … YES… they are listing. Huge difference in Media Bay and a base level project opened and shows the VST in Media Bay.
It only took the eventual wiping of all drives (probably didnt need to delete the user but that ensured all stray config files were gone).
But all is looking good. THANK YOU @cubic13 Just going through this with someone making suggestions makes a difference.
I’ve lost 2 days of fun music making but it’s only a hobby. And given I’m now retired, I’ve got loads of time tomorrow and the rest of the week.
CHEERS!!!
Diolch
THANK YOU
Now for the rest
