No metronome sound in Cubase 12 Pro

I have gone around and around, trying to figure out WHY the metronome in Cubase 12 Pro keeps getting disabled!

  1. YES, I have control room disabled
  2. YES, my audio inputs and outputs are setup correctly
  3. YES, I checked to see if the ‘Audio Click Outputs’ setting in ‘Metronome Setup’ was enabled, and it showed it was enabled. But simply disabling it and re-enabling it, somehow turned the output for the metronome back on. This is maddening.

Please fix Cubase so the metronome STAYS enabled!!! Or tell me how to fix the problem.

Hi,

(This is your 3rd post at the same topic. Read the relayes, please.)

Open Studio > Audio Connections > Outputs. Right-click the desired output and enable the Main Mix here. The click is going to be routed to this output.

It was already enabled as I mentioned above in point #2. It was after that, that I went into the metronome setup, disabled and re-enabled the ‘Stereo Out’ button when you go to ‘Audio Click Outputs’.

Sorry about the multiple posts, but I think the other posts I made were on pre-existing posts made by someone else except maybe for one of them, and they had been going for a while (more than 6 months, so I figured the chance of getting a response was negligible.

I will refrain from multiple posts from this point on.

Hi,

I didn’t error about the Metronome Setup in my post. And you neither in #2.

Please read my post again.

What is even better, because you don’t make a new thread for already existing topic and moreover all from the thread are notified, so you have higher chance someone responds.

It’s not broken otherwise we would all be having problems. Read the answers

The point is, I did read all the answers and nothing fixed my problem until I disabled and re-enabled the one setting as follows: I went into the metronome setup, disabled and re-enabled the ‘Stereo Out’ button when you go to ‘Audio Click Outputs’. That shouldn’t have to happen.

Does that make sense to you? Everything else that was mentioned in the other posts I had checked. I don’t think people are reading what I’m saying and understanding it.

I work in I.T. at a major university and I write code all the time and I know what should happen and what should not happen. If a setting indicates that it’s enabled, I should not have to disable it and re-enable it. End of story.

I don’t have an issue with a huge app that might have a few bugs in it, as long as people are willing to admit when there might be a problem and then go ahead and fix it. But I do have a problem when people act like they are infallible and never make any mistakes.

I love Cubase and I think it’s a great app. I’m just trying to help make it better. Let’s all remain civil. It’s possible there’s something else on my pc that’s conflicting with Cubase… anything is possible, but don’t get your feathers all ruffled because I implied there might be an issue with Cubase.

No software application is perfect and without any problems whatsoever. That’s why we have fixes that get included in updates.

Could it be that others have read what you write but the problem is simply not reproducable on their end? And that we others simply have no idea at this moment what is causing the problem on your end?

Was it already suggested to you to temporarily disable the Cubase preferences?

No, I haven’ t tried disabling preferences. Not sure why that would be necessary, but at this point I’ll try anything.

My point remains. The feature doesn’t appear to be working, at least not on my pc.

Close Cubase.
On PC, open any Windows Explorer and copy %appdata%/steinberg into the location bar.
Search for a folder “Cubase 12_64” and rename that (like “__Cubase 12_64”)

Start Cubase.
Cubase will create a new folder Cubase 12_64. If the Metronome issue is not fixed you can always delete the new folder and re-rename the old one.

Johnny, that worked! Thank you for your help! Pretty cool too how Cubase asked me for my audio interface and set everything up for me!

It is the primary and most basic step in troubleshooting Cubase, by the way.

Glad to hear. As you can see the folder incorporates plenty of files. One of these has a bad entry somewhere. If you like to troubleshoot further you can copy back some of the files step by step to narrow in on the problem.

For those interested – Safe Mode’s Disable/Delete Preferences only touches Defaults.xml. So it’s safe to delete, since user setups like key commands and presets are not removed. It also backs up a copy as part of its job.

Hi all,

Slightly different; my metronome hasn’t worked from day one, and I’ve spent months, on and off, trying to solve the issue. I’ve been going back and forth to ‘Studio> Audio connections,’ and making sure my output is set to ‘Main mix,’ which it always is. And then coming back to the forum seeking answers, but no joy. However, reading this thread again, last night, I followed Rothvin’s path of opening the metronomes setup portal and was about to uncheck the ‘Activate metronome box,’ went I noticed, four lines down, ‘Audio click outputs.’ ‘I wonder?’ thought I, clicking on the drop-down menu in the box marked ‘Choose.’ I double clicked the, ‘Stereo 1.’ Option that I guessed corresponded with the ‘Main mix,’ in ‘Studio setup?’ Well, nothing happened there and then, but when I shut down the metronome setup and clicked on record, bingo! Up she came.

Thanks Rothvin.

You’re welcome, Geoff. I’m glad you got it working!

Hi rothvin,
Today I had the same problem. You solved it.
Thanks!

The same metronome trouble : the microphone settings in windows 11 uses the audiodriver for the metronome…
After closing this audio connection , the metronome is working again
