No MIDI activity in VST platform/software sampler (Kontakt, Komplete Kontrol, etc...)

Hi,

I’ve been having the strangest problem with not getting any sound when I play my midi keyboard.

For context, I’m using Cubase 14. My midi keyboard is the Komplete Kontrol S88 MK2.

I’m getting midi activity when I press the keys but there is no audio coming out. I thought it was routing problem so I checked everything, tried switching back and forth between inputs/outputs but still no audio. I’ve tried resetting the midi keyboard but that didn’t work. I checked MIDI thru, and MIDI filters so it’s not that. I can record the midi just fine. Cubase plays it back normally. There is just no sound as I press the keys in real time.

When I open Kontakt, there is no sound if I press the keys on the keyboard but if I manually click the keys in Kontakt with my mouse, there is a sound. It seems like I’m getting no midi activity within Kontakt (same with other platforms even the HALion Sonic).

Also, everything works fine if I try the standalone software (for Kontakt and Komplete Kontrol). Everything works fine in Logic as well.

Does anyone have any solutions?

Try sticking the MIDI Monitor MIDI Insert onto the Track & see what it tells you.

In Kontakt is the instrument set to Channel 1? What happens if you set the Track’s Channel to Any.

EDIT

Since you only mention Kontakt Is Halion behaving as expected?

This is what I see in the MIDI Monitor. I can see that there’s a MIDI in activity at the bottom right but there’s no MIDI out signal.

I also tried setting the Track’s Channel to Any as you’ve suggested but it didn’t change anything. Halion is also having the same problem as Kontakt.

You should enable monitoring on the Track, the button that looks like a speaker.
