I’ve used Dorico for several years, now I installed Dorico 6 on a new Lenovo Windows laptop, and playback does not work. I have done alle the steps sugested in Anthony Huhge’s videos on the topic. When I make a solo piano and put on the metronome, there is no sound. When I go to Halion7 and use the virtual keyboard at the bottom of the screen, there is no sound and also the meters do not move.
Info:
Windows 11
all Dorico components installed
in device setup: Steinberg built-in ASIO driver
stereo output Realtek speakers, other sounds on the computer wok fine
no other sound software on the laptop, but Adobe Premiere Pro and Finale 27 are installed
Hi @Joris_Dirckx , thanks, I’ve received your diagnostics in order, yes.
On the other hand, going through the logs and things, I don’t see why it is not working with you. As a next try, please go to Edit > Devcie Setup and in there change (if possible) the sample rate to 48000 instead of 44100.
thanks for looking into the matter. I was able to access and change the sample rate to 48.000, but unfortunately no succes: still no sound, not even metronome. Things like youtube movies play normal with sound, so no problem with the computer sound hardware itself.
I just found out another thing that might be helpful to find the promblem.
I have Finale 27 on the same computer, but did not use it after the Dorico installation. I now checked: when I push the playback button, instrument sounds load, and then the playhead blocks. Before the Dorico installation, Finale playback worked perfectly. In device setup I see that Finale has automatically switched to the Steinberg built in AISO driver. When I change this to WASAPI, Finale playback works fine again. Unfortunately, I cannot swith to WASAPI in Dorico to test what happens, the Steinberg built-in Aiso is the only option in the menu.
After running the installers, start Dorico as usual and you shall see two new entries in the list of ASIO drivers in the Device Setup dialog. Does playback work with one of them?
thanks for sending the links. I installed both drivers, both show up in Dorico, and both work! That great, now I can use the laptop. I tried the buit in Steinberg ASIO again, and then there is no sound.
My problem is solved, but it will probably be good if the matter can be looked into further to find out why the Steinberg buit-in AISO seems to be the only one that does not work.
