Library→Layout Options→Players→Bar Rests and Multi Bar Rests→Show Bar rests in empty measures?

You can also go into Note Entry mode, and press Shift B and type “rest”.

Did you enter the notes yourself? Or did you start with a XML file?
Could you check if the last note (or rest) shown in the bottom bar has the Ends Voice property set? Try to untick that
Apperently this is not the cause.
Could you share the project?
hi, tonh . . . wouldn’t you know it, i just re-opened the project and all the bars are in their rightful place ! must have been a glitch .
thanks for your suggestion . . . now i have another possible place to look when it comes up again !
