macOS Sequoia 15.1.1
“An essential component used by Dorico for playback has not been found.”
“Halion Sonic SE3 - Content”
Downloaded “HALion_Sonic_SE_3.5.10_Installer_mac.dmg” and installed it.
Ran it 2x.
Each time restarted Dorico.
Still the same error msg. and still no sound from Dorico.
Are you able to install SE 5 on your computer to get the latest update? That comes with HALion Sonic 7 player, which is an update to the older sound engine.
You wrote that the not found component is the HS Content. These are the sound packages that are used in HS, they are different from HS Installer (which installs only the “player” software).
Also is strange that Dorico asks for HS SE3, if you have Dorico 5 installed (as per your thread tag).
In any case I suggest to create a Diagnostic Report file (from Dorico’s Help menu) and attach the zip file here, so the Team can have a look at what may be going on.
You may need to read the Forum a little bit, to increase your Trust Level, and be able to post files etc…:
The complete Dorico error message:
"An essential component used by Dorico for playback has not been found.
Please run the Steinberg Download Assistant and install the following:
HALion Sonic SE3 - Content
Indian Drum Basics
Groove Agent SE5 - Content
Iconica Sketch
HALion Symphonic Orchestra
Do not show this page again"
I’m not understanding why the original Dorico installation didn’t include the necessary files to enable the software to function.
Any help appreciated
Thanks
Truman, when you installed Dorico via Steinberg Download Assistant, did you select Dorico Pro 5 from the list of products on the left-hand side, and then click Install All on the right-hand side? That is the best way to ensure that everything you need to run Dorico correctly is installed (and is why we provide that button).
The reason there are separate components in the first place rather than everything being in a single installer is that many components are shared between different Steinberg applications, and it’s common for our customers to have more than one of our products installed. It’s therefore sensible, both from the point of view of space on your computer and from our point of view to conserve bandwidth, to allow the Download Assistant to figure out which components are already installed by another product. If everything were in a big single installer, you’d always have to download everything every time, even if only, say, the Dorico application itself had been updated.
So trust Steinberg Download Assistant to install everything: click Install All on the right-hand side, wait for all the progress bars to turn green and show a tick/checkmark inside them, then run Dorico again. Hopefully you will now have no errors.
If you do still get a warning that things are missing, once you get to the Hub window, choose Help > Create Diagnostic Report and attach the resulting zip file here, and we’ll hopefully get some more clues as to what might have gone wrong.
It depends where you purchased Dorico from. If you purchased from our online store, you can contact FastSpring customer support:
If you purchased from another retailer, you will need to contact them for more information.
However, I encourage you to let us get you over this hump. Would you be willing to do a short screen-sharing session with me or a colleague so we can see what’s happening on your computer?
