No sound in Cubase 15, MIDI Tracks Silent – Need Help!

Hey everyone,

I’m losing my mind trying to fix this issue in Cubase 15. Here’s the deal:

The Problem:

  • My metronome works fine (I hear it in my headphones).

  • MIDI tracks show activity (VU meters move when I play my Alesis Recital keyboard or draw notes).

  • BUT NO SOUND comes out of the MIDI tracks!

  • “Stereo Out” doesn’t even show up as an output option in the track inspector.

  • I’m using ASIO4ALL (only my Realtek output is enabled).

My Setup:

  • Windows 11 (up to date)

  • Cubase 15 (full version)

  • Alesis Recital (connected via USB)

  • Headphones plugged into my PC’s jack

What I’ve Tried So Far:

:white_check_mark: Restarted my PC and Cubase (multiple times).

:white_check_mark: Reset audio settings in Cubase.

:white_check_mark: Checked the mixer (faders up, no mute/solo).

:white_check_mark: Made sure ASIO4ALL only has Realtek output enabled.

The Big Question:

Why isn’t “Stereo Out” showing up? And how do I get my MIDI tracks to actually make sound ?

I feel like I’m missing something super obvious here. If anyone’s dealt with this before, PLEASE HELP :sob:

Here’s a screenshot of my working space

Thanks a ton in advance!

MIDI doesn’t make any sound. And has no audio outputs. It is a trigger signal you need to route somewhere else (out to hardware for example)

So what sound do you want to hear? If it’s the hardware (recital) route the midi track to the recital midi input. If it’s something else use an instrument track and load the software instrument

It looks like you’ve opened a Midi track. Try to open a Vst-instrument track instead (NB: not a Rack instrument), “instrument de piste” in your picture. Load an instrument-sound into this, and Put the Midi01 you’ve written onto that track and see if it helps.

ooh i see that worked thanks !!!

i needed to create an instrument track with a VST instrument, thanks for the help!
