Hi,
I have no sound in Dorico - I had sound earlier today, then it just went silent.
I get a no valid license for HALion 6
I reset Dorico preferences to restore factory. (and then changed for dark mode to light)
I have restarted Dorico and check preferences and set them to HALion sonic as per Daniel Spreadbury’s previous post (March 2023 reply to me on similar issue) - it has not cured the problem.
I have worked through Ulf’s post of 23 Nov 2023 on getting sounds - I get a metronome click (open new project / piano / add bars, check metronome click) - but on the next stage of entering notes I have no note sounds.
I am on a 2019 MacBook Pro with Intel chip, running Sonoma 14.6.
I have a HALion sonic within my launchpad - which may be a historic mistake. Should I delete this?
Any other advice / help please?
After shutting down and restarting the no licence message has not recurred. I don’t understand what has occurred - but I have sound and no messages.
If you get a metronome click that means the audio system as such is running.
The no valid license for HALion 6 is suspicious. Normally HALion Sonic is used as the sample player. I recommend to reapply the Playback Template (menu item:Playback > Playback Template) and in Dorico’s Preferences dialog check on the Play tab whether HALion Sonic is set to be the preferred VSTinstrument.
Thanks Ulf,
Lat time I had a problem you spent a long time with (a rather troubled) screen share and solved the problem removing odd files.
I have followed your directions just now - when I go to the Dorico > Preferences I get the message about HALion 6 .
There is a HALion Symphonic Orchestra in my Steinberg Library Manager - should this be there? is this different from HALion 6 ? As I get a no valid licence message I assume I have not bought HALion 6 and perhaps downloaded it in error . There is. HALion 6 in my Launchpad . To remove HALion 6 - please do I remove it from my applications folder?
Thanks
UPDATE
I deleted HALion 6 - and shut down and restarted my Mac - and I still get a no licence message, and no sound , and my Dorico preferences are set to HALIon Sonic and so is my playback template.
Thanks for the data @stephen.bashforth , but I’ll do, and I did already check for the most obvious errors but nothing found so far.
It’s already late so will have a look again tomorrow morning.
I got an email from you offering a remote session, which is extremely generous of you. Deleting the unnecessary HALion6 might have been part of the issues I had (and it has cured / removed the pop-up message about no license - but I also now think some of it could have been finger trouble on my behalf.
Last night I discovered that my mixer output was set very low - so pp passages didn’t sound . Perhaps this should have been obvious - but it wasn’t .
The lesson for me to learn is - check the mixer output! So please accept my apologies.
I am very grateful for such excellent support from Dorico - and feel embarrassed at causing myself problems .
I think we can leave this problem without need of a remote session.
Apologies for having one of those accidental “human error” moments.
Many thanks for your willingness to help.
I am happy the issue is solved.
