No sound on Cubase 12

Hello everyone,

I’m posting this message to ask you for a little help with a problem I’m having with Cubase 12.
I haven’t used this software for several years, and the problem I’m currently having is that no sound is emitted by Cubase, either when I click directly on an instrument (for example Halion symphonic orchestra), or when I plug in my MIDI keyboard directly.

I have a Lenovo PC (AMD Ryzen 3 processor) and I think that I don’t really have a sound card but that it is ‘natively integrated into the motherboard’.
My audio drivers are up to date and I’m up to date via windows update.
And normally I’ve made the necessary settings in ‘studio setup’ and ‘audio connections’.

Thank you very much in advance for your help, because I simply haven’t been able to use Cubase 12 for several weeks now.
Have a nice day!

Could you post screen shots of the setup windows?

Hi and welcome to the forum,

What ASIO driver do you use? Where is the audio routed to? How is the Studio > Audio Connections > Outputs look like (could you provide a screenshot)? Do you use Control Room?

Can you see any meters while playback?

Hello and thank you for your answers!

When I took some screenshots to show you the ‘studio setup’ window, I realised that Cubase offered me two drivers (‘Generic low latency ASIO driver’ and ‘Steinberg built-in ASIO driver’). By selecting the second driver, I finally had sound on my PC! Is it normal for the first driver not to work?

On the other hand, I’ve noticed that it no longer works when I plug in my headphones (even after restarting cubase), but that I get sound in my headphones if I go back to the first driver (‘Generic low latency ASIO driver’).

And finally, I had one last question: the overall sound on Cubase is rather weak at home (even if the sound on my PC is at maximum), do you know if it’s possible to increase the overall sound of Cubase (and not just the sound of a single track)?

Thanks in advance and have a nice day!

Hi,

It depends, on how is the output set up.

Did you plug the headphones into your Steinberg UR Audio Device? Did you turn the PHONES encoder?

What kind of speaker do you use? How is your Stereo Out set up? Or do you use the Control Room? If this is the case, how is the Level of the Control Room set up?

Hi,

With the ‘Steinberg built-in ASIO driver’, I’m not offered to choose my headphones in ‘audio connections’ → outputs, and in ‘studio setup’ either).

If I’ve understood correctly, the ‘Steinberg UR audio device’ is an additional device. I don’t have this type of device, I connect my headphones directly to my PC.

As for the sound being too weak, that’s mainly with my headphones, so I can’t increase the sound with speakers. I think the control room is reserved for Cubase PRO, if that’s the case I don’t have it because I only have Cubase Elements.

Have a nice day!

Honestly, both of these drivers are not very good. Even if you have it working you probably have high latency.
If you don’t use an interface with it’s own ASIO driver one of the third party options will likely work better.

Just don’t click the big green download buttons on this awful site…You want the orange text link to the software. The installer is clean and only installs the needed driver.
