Sorry to be another no-sound person, but this is new for me. I have had Dorico since V1, and never had audio issues. Since moving to a new MacBook Air - Tahoe 26.3.1 I’ve a few occasions where there is no sound. It is - I think - after I have used Zoom. I always have to go in and reset the sample rate, but twice now I have been left with no audio. The attached image shows nothing on the stereo output, and on my old MBAir (Version 5) it does show that things are connected. I have audio for everything else. I tried killing the VST in the activity monitor, but no change. I’m not sure what I did - or what happened - to get the sound back, but after a while it did return. I’d like a more reliable method than just wait-it-out.
I know this has been hashed over, but my reading others’ problems and solutions didn’t seem to point me in the right direction.
Thanks in advance.
Not while Dorico was running, I hope?
Check the Mac’s Audio MIDI Setup.app, and made sure that the sound output in configured correctly. (You could even try creating an additional “Aggregate” or Multi-Output device, that just contains your built-in speakers. This will show up as an additional choice of output, but just route to the same device.
I appears they are configured correctly - it’s an area I have never ventured in before. When I hit the “test” button, there was a loud hiss, from each of the appropriate speakers. I have only the built in speakers - not using headphones at the moment. I do get audio when I use other devices - YTube, Spotify, etc. It’s only Dorico that remains silent.
I have read in other posts about trashing some audio component, then restarting. But, as I am not sure what that entails, I haven’t tried it.
Lastly, the only sounds I use are the ones that come with V6 and Noteperformer.
Click the Device Control Panel… button on the Device Setup window and make sure your MacBook speakers are selected (ticked) as audio output device:
Then click Close.
The Stereo Output: 1, 2 appears again in your Device Setup window and the sound works again.
This happens from time to time when using different devices and audio outputs, so, nothing out of the ordinary was happening to you.
@rpearl Ulf always mentions a little menu arrow from the device settings that opens up and allows you to select (check boxes) for audio. I don’t have it on my mac because I don’t use built-in. It’s either right on the Device Setup dialog or by clicking Device Control Panel from that dialog.
Thank you - that did the trick. I had looked at it, but must have missed that the box was not checked.
Much appreciated!
I suspect your answer takes me to the same place as the answer above. Thank you!
Sorry - meant to say thanks!
