No sound with control room. (MacBook Pro M1)

Hi all, I’m googling and watching YouTube vids as well, but as this is stopping me from proceeding, I thought I’d ask here incase I can’t find the answer.

Focusrite scarlet 2i2
New install of Cubase 13 Pro

I’ve gone into “Studio”/“Studio Setup” and clicked on “Audio System”
I’ve selected “Scarlett 2i2 USB” from the pull down box next to “ASIO Driver”.

Then I’ve clicked on “Studio”/“Audio Connections”

Under the “Inputs” tab
I’ve selected “Add Bus” and named it “2i2 Mic”,
Selected “Mono” in the configuration pull down box.
Under “Audio Device” it has “Scarlett 2i2 USB”
Under “Device Port” it has “input 1”

There’s nothing under the “Outputs” tab

Under the “Control Room” tab
I’ve selected “Add Channel” and chosen “Add Monitor” from the pull down box
In the “Add Monitor” window, I’ve named it “2i2 Output” and changed the configuration to “Stereo”
Under Audio Device I’ve selected “Scarlett 2i2 USB”
“Device Port” now lists “Output 1” and Output 2"
If I click on “Output 1” it tells me it’s connected to “2i2 Output Left”
Likewise “Output 2” tells me it’s connected to “2i2 Output right”

I drag in a wave file and play it on a loop. The meters are showing sound but I don’t hear anything.

I’m sure I’ve done something really stupid (as usual)

any help much appreciated

Thanks

Hi,

Could you attach screenshots, please? It’s easier to understand.

Can you see the Meters on the Track? Is the track output set to Stereo Out? Can you see the meters on the Stereo Out? Can you see the meters in the Control Room (Right Zone)?

Thanks, edited OP to show screenshots

Still trying to find my way around Cubase, haven’t used it since I think V9, can’t find how to set the track to stereo out or mono but as two meters, I presume its stereo

Hopefully this might help

Fixed it.

I quit out of Cubase, restarted it and created a new project, everything worked fine.

On further investigation, it had put a bus back into "Output"even though it’s not assigned to anything

Out of interest, I tried removing it, it came up with this warning

I went ahead and removed it anyway, sure enough, back to where I was in my original post. No sound at all. I simply logged back out and back in, the entry had reappeared under “Output” and the sound plays fine.

I 'm obviously missing something, my brain sort of gets that the Control Room needs some sort of output to connect to, but in the “Output” tab, nothing was connected.

Ah well, it’s. all working thats the main thing.
