No sound with Cubase Pro15

Hello. I have licenses for Cubase Pro 14 and 15, which I keep on my Mac. Cubase Pro 14 works perfectly with my Korg D1 MIDI keyboard. I have the same setup with Cubase Pro 15; the sound card is also correctly configured—in short, everything is identical with both programs. Unfortunately, I’m getting no audible sound from my MIDI keyboard using Halion. The more I’ve tried to figure it out, the less I’m getting anywhere. Any ideas?

So we need to find out where the issue is.
Do you get sound output from an audio file?
(Is your audio output setup correctly?)
Is midi going in from your controller. Can you see midi input activity when you press a key on your controller?
Is it a problem with Halion? Have you loaded a working pre-set? Have you tried with other VST instruments? Can you get sound from Retrologue for example?
These are all steps needed to pinpoint the issue.

No sound from my Korg MIDI keyboard with Retrologue or Halion. There’s no activity when I use the controller; I only hear sounds with the numeric keypad. All my setups, connections, etc., are correct and exactly the same as with Cubase Pro 14. I’ve checked my MIDI cables, and everything is fine. It’s a mystery I haven’t been able to figure out since updating to Cubase Pro 15 (3 weeks ago)! I have both versions on my Mac; could this be the problem?

maybe there’s an error with your midi remote script? (if you use one)
Or do you have both versions of Cubase running at the same time?

No I don’t have both versions Cubase running at the same time. I don’t use midi remote script. I really don’t understand where is the problem?

2 questions:

  1. Have you loaded an instrument/sound into a slot in Halion?
  2. Have you checked the audio connection is active and set to the right output (studio/Audio connection/out- and input panes)?

You still haven’t answered.
Do you hear sound when using audio? If so it’s not a audio setup problem.
Do other VST instruments work. Trying to work out if it’s a midi input problem or a Halion issue.
You’ve shown screen shots of the midi filter preferences..you need to screen shot the midi set-up page and the inspector settings of the VST instrument track so we can see your midi input.

Yes I have loaded instrument into slot in Halion. In audio, I recorded a classic guitar and it’s fine in output. I recorded a voice and there is sound probably a bad output, it’s not a problem. The reel problem is with Halion

I’m trying to help you here.
Is it Halion? Is it the midi data not outputting from your controller? Or Halion not outputting audio?
If you draw the midi into the key editor does the Halion play?
Do all Halion presents not play?
Do other VST instruments (Retrologue / padshop) play ok?
Check your controller is setup in the midi set-up?

Tks for trying to help me. Yes Halion midi data not outputting from my controller and not outputting audio. Yes all Halion presents not play or other VST instruments. My controller is setting in midi set up. I’ve tried every things and it is not «working». Cubase Pro 14 is running very well and I have the same settings in Cubase 15. I think I’ll give up and go back to Cubase 14. It’s a shame, but…

Lets try one more. If you can screenshot this page. This is the midi port set-up ..You will find it in the studio set-up menu. Also what is your controller (keyboard)
Important check your settings in this page are the same as in your Cubase 14 same page. pay attention to the ticks in the check boxs on the right.

I’ve overlooked this one! Why this setting? You’ve filtered out midi messages.

Manual C15 pro says:

MIDI - MIDI Filter
This page allows you to prevent certain MIDI messages from being recorded and/or echoed by the MIDI thru function (thruput).
The page is divided into 4 sections:
Record
Prevents the corresponding type of MIDI message from being recorded. It will, however, be thruput, and if already recorded, play back normally.
Thru
Prevents the corresponding type of MIDI message from being thruput. It will, however, be recorded and played back normally.

Mine look like this:

Yes I missed this also.
This will be the problem. You need to un-tick the boxes and tick the Bottom two that are un-ticked.
Basically your stopping all midi going into Cubase

Yes!!
And click the monitor button and check if the connection is is responding!

Play your midi device and you maybe get this.

THIS IT IT. Thank you so much for your patience. You nailed the problem and everything is working perfectly now. You were a great help and I greatly appreciate your technical support. I’ll have a beer in your honor. Thanks again…
