Normal for Playback to "pause" whenever I minimize Cubase?

Hi, just wondering if it’s normal that whenever I have Cubase doing playback and I activate a non-Cubase window (ex: MS Word, etc.) that playback pauses, and the moment I click back into Cubase, it resumes playback automatically?

FWIW, I have the driver release in background preference enabled.

You have the option enabled, so Cubase releases the audio driver every time you switch to another application, this is how it works. You have to disable that option to let Cubase play audio in the background.
