Not a single improvement to guitar notation?

Thank you, it’s stock Petaluma!

People can be pretty clueless sometimes… It’s very clearly a plagal cadence! Also D or Bm pentatonics sound pretty horrible soloing over this… :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

I never knew that! I’ve always gone for G, D never crossed my mind.

LOL! This was a big FB argument around 6 or 7 years ago. Adam Neely votes for D.

EDIT: Maybe the FB thing was longer ago than that. It might have been from when Elew did it on America’s Got Talent. Anyway, he ends it in D.

Sorry, I vote D here. It’s mixolydian in the opening.

Dan, so, D mixo?

yep, 100%!

Ok, but firstly D mixo is the same scale, chords and notes as G major, and secondly a V > IV > I plagal cadence with G as the resting chord makes much more sense than the I > bVII > IV thingy…

As y’all can see, I have absolutely nothing else to do right now…

It’s all good, but this song is absolutely and completely fixed on D as the tonal center. I understand the plagal thing vs. the bVII thing, but they’re just attempts at descriptive labels.

The bVII is incidental and could be omitted entirely, and it would still be a I - IV circular pop thing. If it were in G, it would be a sort of V - I, which isn’t pop at all.

Tapping out. Regardless, it’s a great vibe!

There’s plenty of F naturals, too!

I rest my case.:smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

P.S.: Of course they end the song on the IV, like many rock anthems do… You know, the usual ending, drum fills, cheering crowd, the works!

Yep, the nature of the Blues!:smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Same discussion as the second “chord” of Stairway to Heaven, it’s just asking the wrong question…

see: that’s exactly what I mean by “not userfriendly”!
