Not Displaying Empty Staves

Hi all - I have a layout which I’ve called “lead sheet”, and it’s mostly a lead sheet. However, there are a few particular spots in the chart where I’d like to indicate some specific bass notes, and I can’t cram it all into one staff, so I’ve added a second player and staff to the lead sheet layout to notate these.

I’d like this second staff to only be visible where there is actual music written - it’s 95% empty and I’d like to not display the empty bars on systems that don’t need them.

In the Layout options, I’ve checked the options to hide empty staves:

However, I still see the staves when I view the chart in Engrave mode:

Any ideas what I’ve done wrong?

Well, I don’t know what I did, but it seems to be working properly new. Maybe just closing and reopening the file did it? weird, but hiding the empty bars is as I expect it to be
