I am currently working on a cantata for choir and orchestra.
I am french, and use the french instruments name.
In french, violas are called “altos” like the female low voices “altos”…
You see where I am going?
Dorico labels Altos from the choir “Alto II” and violas from the String ensemble as “Alto I”…
Am I stuck? I can’t find a clever way to remediate to this problem…
Dorico will only use consecutive numbers for instruments that have exactly the same name. You could rename your altos to " altos" (with a space at the beginning) as a quick fix.
Maybe we could use this as a feature request, so that Dorico will only number instruments with the same name within the same family? Numbering together an “alto” singer and an “alto” saxophone is equally nonsensical as a “tenor” singer and a “tenor” saxophone. Or a “Bass” singer and a “Bass” tuba player and a “Bass” drum.
