The midi ‘bars’ show up in Garageband. I just wanted to make sure the issue wasn’t the Casio, so I assume that’s not the issue. As far as input activity, I get a red/orange bar on the transport panel but not green next to where the Click and Tempo info is. I’m thinking it’s probably something simple that I’m over looking.
That’s unlikely: if this basic function wasn’t working there would be a lot more noise about it here.
You need to make sure the keyboard output from your MIDI keyboard is recognized at the track in Cubase where you want it to record. It is hardly relevant whether it works in Garageband. Check your track inspector to see where it takes its MIDI inputs, and check the VST devices to see the keyboard is known by Cubase.
No need to give up, just plough through the vids I recommended. Like you and I wrote before, it has to be something very simple that gets overlooked. Even better, find a guy/girl in your neighbourhood who knows DAWs to help you out, that could even be a faster method to solve your problem.
I really, really wish Guitar Center would let me return it, but they have a no return policy on opened software. I have loved Cubase in the past and it’s been easy to use, but it’s not worth much to me now. One hundred dollars wasted. I’ve also re-installed several times. Sigh. I’ve messaged GC on FB. I doubt they’ll do anything for me though. Sorry. Used to be a Cubase fan (worked with an LE version (Windows) and it was easy peasy to use which is why I chose it again for my Mac).
Maybe your last resort… Trashing prefs?
Reinstalling Cubase does not affect prefs.
Look up the knowledge base to trash them and then try again.
It has to be something, Cubase really works.
GC is willing to give me a store credit if I ship it back. That’s the route I’m taking. I’ve been dealing with figuring this out for a month and I’m not a home recording dummy. I’ve used Reaper, Adobe Audition, Garageband, Audacity, Cubase LE (why I elected to use them again now–had a great experience with it but the copy I have is not compatible with Mac) but this not working. I’ve watched YT upon YT vids, searched Google high and low and also scoured the manual. It could be something really simple but it could be a compatibility issue because even with more complicated software, it has never been as trying as this.
I’ve just solved this frustrating problem on my own Cubase 6 rig.
As soon as I deselected the GM Drum Map from my instrument track, substituting “No Drum Map” instead, HALion Sonic SE’s “[GM 134] Rock Kit” preset sprang to life, and I was able to play it using the virtual keyboard in the transport window. (Previously, the virtual keyboard had been ineffective.)
Record and replay were fine.
The moral seems to be: don’t choose a drum map on a HALion Sonic SE instrument track.
On the MIDI tab of HALion Sonic SE’s extended display, the “[GM 134] Rock Kit” preset was in the top rack slot, with MIDI channel 1 shown alongside it. I changed that to channel 10 and now, with the “GM Map” drum map, I have sound.
ThePresent, I’m greatly obliged. Thanks for sharing, and best regards.
