Notation issues with Dorico pro 6

Can’t find the rests. 2. how to change notation, example I try to put a dotted have half note, Dorico puts two eighth notes with dotted quarter note. Couldn’t change it. 3. When assigning key signatures, going from C instruments to a Bb instrument, the correct key wouldn’t change automatically, Then I couldn’t change it manually. 4. How do you drop and drag. Copy the music from one instrument to another instrument.

Please watch the numerous tutorial ad beginners videos. Also, make an effort to at least skim the excellent manual so you get an idea of what is in there (which is in fact, everything).

Sure people here can help you. but some seklf learning would help you more than us just giving specific solutions.

In particular you need to read about forced duration.

Andro is quite right, but here are a couple things to help you:

  1. Don’t input rests, generally. Rests are “implicit”; that is, they are automatically generated when you input the notes you want. Sometimes the rest won’t show up until the next note is entered.
  2. It depends on your meter, generally. Please give more context.
  3. You probably don’t have an actual “C” signature. Input one using the popover. When you want to change keys, make sure the signpost is selected as well.
  4. You can’t drag and drop. Copy and paste.

What is a sign post

I entered notes without key signature, when I entered key of f, all my notes went up a step. I don’t know how to bring them all down. It was easy in finale. I’d like to read a manual with an index in it so I can focus on my issues. Can you help

In these days you can find very quickly and easily answers on the internet. I tried it in Google with: “dorico Moving up and Down notes” (your question) and I got in seconds the answer. I work with Dorico several years now, and now and then I encounter something, and I don’t remember at that moment how to do that exactly. The way I described above, works almost all the time, to find the solution. Good luck with exploring Dorico. In the beginning it can be a little difficult, but most people start loving the program in a short time.

I am not sure I understand what you are doing.
Changing the key signature doesn’t change the pitches.
If you are using a transposing instrument, you can visualise the Concert Pitch vs the Transposed Pitch: if the transposing instrument is an instrument in Bb for example, if you switch to Transposing Pitch, the visualised pitches go up a major second. Maybe is this happening to you?:

To move notes up or down you select the note(s) and then use the move shortcut:

on MacoOS:
Option+arrow up or arrow down

on Windows:
Alt+arrow up or arrow down

The PDF Manual has an Index (at page 1865), but the Manual itself has 2000 pages, so it is suggested to use it as a reference.

Or you can use the online Manual (Webhelp), which has a very clear Table Of Contents on the left, and a very powerful search engine:

To start learning Dorico I suggest reading the PDFs and studying the videos that you find in the Dorico Resources site:

I made a topic with some resources for users that come from Finale: (click me)

I’m glad you found your answer, but using Google is often a bad way to search for information on Dorico. Since Google ranks information in part according to the number of “hits” it has received, older, out-of-date information often has far more hits than the latest, most accurate information.

So use Google with caution for this, if at all.
