Would anybody else like to have a “duration feature” in the Note tools (Shift+I) popover ?
like 15x16 to set the duration of 3 half notes plus 3 sixteen, etc..
This would be very usefull while composing in Dorico.
It’s already possible to change the duration of notes fairly easily: with Insert mode on, just press another note duration number; or use increase/decrease by grid.
I’m talking about non conventional note durations !!!
I’m well aware of what you are refering to, and if I’m writing a suggestion about this, it’s because I think something could be done that would help certain situations.
I don’t want to incread/decrease by hand, I wish I could enter a duration.
Popovers are doing so much, but this “no”. And why not ?
What is a non-conventional duration?

a) you want to make a pitch into a particular pattern of note durations e.g. select C, enter a succession of durations in the popover = the C is added in this pattern. This is already quite easy: enter a long note > move the caret along to where you want the new note > press U (split the note)
b) you want to enter a succession of notes of the same pitch: this is basic note entry. Or, select a note > choose a note duration > press R (repeat the note) > choose a new note duration > press R > … etc
c) something else?
I suspect he meant three quarter notes plus three sixteenths = 15 16th notes.
I think it’s not about entering a pattern or succession of pitches; it’s about setting the duration of one note. Currently, giving a note a duration of 15 16ths takes several keystrokes (probably entering a dotted half and tying it to a dotted eighth). I’m not sure that the proposed method is necessarily fewer keystrokes, but it is arguably more direct.
Personally, I don’t think this would be useful for me.

I heard you. This feature is not useful to you.
But, there is no absolutely reason as to why note popover should not include duration as well. I would certainly know what to do with it.
And, you don’t own that software. So you don’t get to decide what lives or dies just because you spend your life on this forum. I use this software too and I’m really more interested in the response of the dev team to a feature request.

Devs, could you please consider adding a note duration system to the notes popover ?

@maresz , would it not be even better being able to have user defineable slots in the note value pane, so one could just select those note lenghts with one keypress? In that case, you would not have to involve the Shift+I popover.
I do not know anything about what kind of music you write and in what way this would be useable for you – would you like to share some real life examples of that?
The discussion reminds a little bit of the one about moving augmentation dots. When the OP posted an example of where it is really important, it was all very clear why it is a necessary feature.

Except opportunity costs. The question is not whether a given feature is valuable; it is whether it is the most important feature to as many folks as possible on the Development Team’s roadmap.

You can make you featture request also without it …
Before this escalates further: @maresz has said that he’d find this feature useful. Others (including me) have said that they don’t see a need for it. Both are valid viewpoints; no one is saying that the other one is wrong.
The devs read all threads on this forum and will have taken note of the feature request. They will sometimes confirm that something is on their roadmap, but they otherwise generally don’t comment on new features or whether/when they might be implemented.
