Note Grouping issue: dotted quarter across half-bar

I have this note that is passing the half of the bar even if, according to my settings, I was thinking it should have not (meter is 4/4).

After checking with a blank document, I found that the setting causing this (the only different one) is this:

The point is that I need dotted quarter notes at the beginning of the bar or on beat 3, but I do not want them on beat 2.

Is this something I have to force with Force Duration or is there another setting about that in Notation Options > Note Grouping?

Yes. This has been a long-standing pet peeve of mine too. It’s the rest on the & of 3 that causes this.

I personally don’t think it should make any difference whether there’s a note or a rest on the & of 3 here and I’m not sure I’ve ever seen it written that it should. I don’t know if this goes as far as being a bug, as perhaps it’s working as designed, but it’s certainly undesirable behavior.
